How I Started My Niche Market.

 

Almost all of us are looking to do that one job that no one else is doing.  Why?  Because of the lack of competition; perhaps because we like the thought of being the leader/founder of something new; groundbreaker; money.

I was 58 when I spent a week in the hospital for cancer surgery.  You have very little else to do but think.  The thought occurred to me that I would have to change the way I do business (NOTE:  you don't have to go to the hospital to do this project  (<;

I had recently read about focusing on strengthening your strenghts rather than strengthening your weaknesses.  So that what I started doing:

  • What are my strengths?  Listed them on paper.
  • What, in my life, do I have a lot of experience?
  • What have people most often commented on about my character?
  • To whom do I relate?
  • Based on all of the above, who needs me?

And all of a sudden, the answer was THERE!

I immediately started doing research, and then drew up an outline of what I should do to get this niche off the ground.  I will tell you that I dove into this project like a whirlwind, and feel the passion even stronger today.

I am now the nation's leading Certified Real Estate Divorce Specialist.  I help divorcing people sell their homes, studying the tax and legal aspects of real estate as they apply to divorcing couples. 

Here are the highlights that led to this decision (see above list):

  • People trust me and listen to me; as a former Gunnery Sergeant in the Marines, I'm not easily intimidated or pushed around.
  • I've been divorced 5 times:  1) as a 9yr old 2) twice myself 3)both sons.
  • I'm not a liar; open minded (most of the time!).
  • I relate to every facet of divorcing people's lives.

I quickly realized where my value lies to divorcing couples:

  1. I'm a good, professional realtor
  2. Specially trained.
  3. I understand my clients.  There is no experience they can have that I have not already been there.

This is it in a nutshell.  This was my process.  IF ANYONE OF YOU NEEDS SOME ADVICE, I'M MORE THAN READY TO HELP YOU.
