FALL SEASON OF MIRACLES ~ LIVING ANOTHER DAY!

Family

Every season of life comes with challenges and blessings.  Being able to stay focused on the blessings during the dark and challenging seasons of our lives is paramount.  The twists and turns we all experience impact our lives in profound ways.Dr. Howell

When I stand back and review my past year I am amazed and completely blown away by the immensity of challenges that have come into my life.  I often feel that even writing about these challenges is difficult and know that everyone has challenges in life and that mine are no larger or more important than the next persons.

For whatever reason, I have experienced many true miracles in my life.  Having faced my third very serious health issue this past year I have come face to face with my own mortality and have had to work through the reality of life and death.  None of us knows how many days we have on this earth and through these challenges, I have learned to breathe in life like never before.

As I listened to my surgeon last year telling me that he was going to have to open up my chest again it was if I was going back in time to seven years ago when I first heard those dreaded words.  Chest surgery?  Really? Again?  Not a lot of hope?  Get your affairs in order.  Talk to your children.  All of those statements were being repeated to my numb state of mind.Cayden

The man pictured here with me is my beloved Surgeon Dr. Jimmy Howell who has saved my life twice now.  He is a legend here in Houston and I feel so very fortunate to have encountered this man.  I love him dearly.

So fast forward to the fall of 2011.  My chest wound has healed, the lung tumor is gone.  I am ALIVE!  I am RUNNING, WORKING, LOVING, LIVING, BREATHING.  These are the miracles of life!

I don't get to dictate if I will once again hear the dreaded words again but if I do, I know that I have been given the miracle of life and survival.  I have been allowed to see two beautiful grandchildren enter this world and  I have married my best friend.

Life is difficult yet precious.  My miracle continues each and every day that I take a breath.  I don't ever, ever want to get so bogged down with life that I forget to appreciate how tenuous it can be.

MY MIRACLE IS THE ABILITY TO BREATHE IN LIFE TODAY!  Have you taken a breath of LIFE today?  Do it right now and don't ever forget how precious you are and how beautiful your life is no matter what is going on.

The picture below was taken two months after the photo at the top of the post.  Today I am leaping for the joy of being able to live yet another day!  Ain't life grand?

Hi Paula,

Your zeal for life has been heightened through your trials and the joy of the Lord shows in everything you accomplish!

We never know what the rest of today or tomorrow may bring, but we know life does not end here on earth. As the Apostle Paul said in Acts 26 "Why do all of your refuse to believe that God can bring dead people back to life?"

Well it is evident that we share the knowledge that God is eternal, and through His own son, we too will live eternally with Christ! For there is no sorrow or pain that can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!

Wow Paula! Thank goodness for Doctors that perform these miracles often. Sometimes the rest of us forget to really enjoy our lives and enjoy the loved ones around us. Its not until something like this happens that we remember to be thankful. Its a shame. Thankfully you are doing great. You don't look quite old enough to have two grandchildren, but congratulations! :-)

Thank you both and Paul - where have you been?  I was just thinking about you today and wondering if all was well with you. Glad to hear from you.

John, yes it good to recognize the good things in our lives.  And thank you for the kuddos.  And yes, I am old enough to be a grandmother as I have passed the big 5-0 mark!  Thanks anyway.  You made this gals day.  :)

Unless your pictures are seriously outdated (all of them) I would never have guessed 5-0. You are doing something right.  Have a great evening!

Paula,

Without doubt you've seen the collision between life and death, and have picked up the broken pieces about eternity.  We really love you, Cherise and Gordon

Again, thanks John.  Pictures were all this past year.  You are super sweet.

Gordon and Cherise.  I so love the two of you as well.  You guys inspire me on a daily basis and I love seeing the incredible relationship that you two possess.  I have finally found that as well and it is so wonderful.  Have a great evening everyone.

Paula,

I agree several comments. Loreena stole my thunder in that you have had an incredible journey, and we have all benefited from it.

And of course John is right, in that I would have never guessed you are a grandmother.
