Native plant sale, October 15, 2011

The California Native Plant Society will be having its fall native plant sale on Saturday, October 15, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the courtyard of the Casa del Prado Theatre, 1700 Village Place, in Balboa Park.

ManzanitaThis is a great opportunity to get native plants at much lower prices than you would normally find at Home Depot or the plant nurseries. Since they've been grown by the expert members of the California Native Plant Society, you can be assured that they are ready to go home to your garden.

Alongwith native shrubs, trees, and flower plants, there are seeds, books, and posters, as well as friendly and knowledgeable experts to answer your questions.

Plants go quickly, which is probably why it's only a four-hour sale, so I recommend getting there early.

Jim,

I love these type of plant sales.  You learn about the native plants that were original to the arean, and the plants are usualy grown with great care, by people who hare experts in their own right.  Have a great day, it is raining here after 3 glorious day in a row.  A

Hi Jim,

Native plants are the way to go these days. They are a great way to "go green' in the garden. They need less water and fussing and fend of pests and diseases.

Hope you're having a great week. Take care. D

Jim,

Wow cheaper and I can bet better quality plants that you get a Home Depot. I will bet those plants fly out of there. Hope you go and take some pictures to show us!

Pamela - That purple flower is a manzanita. They grow all over the mountains throughout Southern California. Unfortunately, they are full of flammable sap and are a major cause of the wildfires that roar through Southern California.
