That's Annoying...

By
Real Estate Agent with Surterre Properties

Did you know cell phone numbers go public this month?! All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.....

YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS !

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list.

It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for 5 years! You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked.

You cannot call from a different phone number. Pass this on to everyone you know so we can all prevent the pesky telemarketing calls!

Michael this is a very interesting topic. I have heard of this so I went on and did some research. I got some potentially good news. This from what I understand is somewhat of a rumor and somewhat of misinformation.

The information I included below was from a recent article written by About.com Hope it helps ease some of your worries about this.

"This rumor has been circulating continuously since September 2004. Despite a small grain of truth at its core, it's mostly false, misleading, and outdated.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. Yes, you can add your cell phone number(s) to the National Do Not Call Registry.

  2. No, you won't suddenly be at the mercy of 10,000 telemarketers if you don't.

Contrary to what's claimed in these emails, cell phone numbers aren't about to "go public."

It's true that a few years back several of the major wireless providers announced a plan to establish a universal cell phone directory, but the plan did not consist of simply publishing everyone's cell phone numbers for the world to see, nor were the numbers to be "released to telemarketers" as claimed above. The directory was to be made available only via telephone, only to those who dialed directory assistance and paid a fee, and only with individual wireless customers' consent. "

Hi Michael, that really chaps my hide. I have just called this number so I can keep them away from calling me. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe we can stop those pesky REALTORS® from calling! LOL!

Seriously though, there's two sides to every story and I never registered MY phone because I MAKE cold calls from my phone which I guess would be considered to be "sales or telemarketing" calls.

Now, auto/robo dialers with no one on the line...that's annoying! :)

I've already gone on line and entered both my home and cell numbers.  I signed up years ago, but seem to be getting more calls lately so I registered again.

Read Sam's comment. His comment is number two. Sounds like he has the real goods on this issue.
