Cupertino residents are on the alert after a man shot and killed three people, and injured seven at Lehigh Permanente Cement Plant in Cupertino.
Many Cupertino residents as well as people who work in Cupetino received an automated call this morning from the Santa Clara County Sherriffs Department alerting them to the danger, giving a description of the suspect and cautioning them not to approach him if spotted.
Nearby schools, including Monta Vista High in Cupertino, opted to cancel classes for the day.
People were advised to stay away from areas currently blocked from traffic by police at the areas of Stevens Creek west of Foothill, and roads near Tantau and Homestead.
Suspect is described as dark-skinned, with brown eyes and black hair, and may be driving a brown 1999 Mercury.
More information can be learned by tuning in to Cupertino's radio station, 1670 am. People who live and work in Cupertino can sign up for the automatic emergency alerts at the city's website, Www.Cupertino.org/emergency.

Sheriff’s Deputies say an armed employee opened fire during an early morning meeting at the Lehigh Cement Plant in Cupertino near Stevens Creek Boulevard. The entire shooting incident lasted two minutes.
The suspect has fled the scene, he is 45-year-old, Shareeff William Allman and is described by co-workers as disgruntled.
All classes are cancelled at Cupertino Community Center. Quinlan Community center has also cancelled all the preschool classes at Quinlan Community Center and Monta Vista Recreation Center.

Cupertino Senior Center and Cupertino Sports Center are open.
Cupertino Union Schools District (elementary and middle) schools are open and students are kept under shelter.
Cupertino High School is in lockdown and students are being asked to shelter in place. Monta Vista High School is closed and students are asked to stay at home. Homestead High School is closed and students are asked to stay at home. Fremont and Lynbrook High Schools are open.
