Kodak and ActiveRain 'Printing on the Go' Challenge – General Contractor Style

Technology today has grown to a point that it is getting difficult to keep up with it all. Having heard about this Kodak and ActiveRain 'Printing on the Go' Challenge, I thought that I would do some research to see what “KODAK Email Print App and/ or Google Cloud Printing” is all about. And more importantly, how can I use it effectively as a contractor.

I like the idea of connecting a printer to an E-mail address for a couple of reasons because it will open the potential for receiving documents at various sites.

I recently completed a large apartment repair project in Sacramento that would have benefited from the use of the E-mail or Cloud printing. The owner/property manager is based in Walnut Creek, 1 ½ hours away. During the repair project several time sensitive events had happened. The project needed to be completed by a “hard” completion date; every day wasted in getting something processed is a lost day.

The first document, the contract, was sent shortly on iPhone I was not able to print and sign it. This was going to be a problem. I either had to drive back to the office or send the document from my phone to another computer for someone else to print – cumbersome!

There were several more situations that came up: subcontractor agreements, change orders, design photos, and lien releases to name a few. On several occasions, I would get a lien release sent to me by e-mail just prior to the owners leaving Walnut Creek to drive to Sacramento (a one and a half hour drive). If I could get notarized signature, the owners would have a check ready for me at the apartment community where the repairs were being done. This was task that took me away from getting the work done effectively with my crew.

Clearly, if I had a printer that could be linked to an E-mail address this would have been simpler to produce these documents and photos. I am certain that the apartment community manager would have allowed me to tap into their phone lines and set up my own printer on site. You talk about a mobile office; I would be able to run things right on the job site.

I think that this technology added with some high quality printing products, like those produced by Kodak, a contractor like myself can be more effective, save time, and ultimately save money for my company.

I don't own an iPad, I can see how that would benefit you in showing your portfolio Kristine.

The technology and the products available have certainly helped those in the service industry Debbie.

Thanks Pamela, I'm curious to see how others are benefiting from the technology.
