This one didn't get any headlines. There were no local politicians making trips to the headquarters to try to convince the owners to stay. There was no going out of business sale.

The Lumber Yard which was located almost directly behind our office here in Hershey closed it's Hershey location  and the last day for employees was last Friday, the 26th. The location actually closed for business two weeks ago, but the past two weeks were spent moving inventory to one of the other locations.

This location has been here as long as I can remember, but it's been pretty clear that the competition of the Lowe's in Palmyra (6 miles away) and the Home Depot on Derry Street in Harrisburg (less than 10 minutes away) was hurting the business potential here.

The closing last month of one of their largest local customers probably was the death knell here. It's a shame, because this was one business that had knowledgeable employees who could answer questions and provide helpful hints. I hope the guys and gals find equal or better jobs.

I am always sorry to see local businesses close their doors. It is just sad...
