Networking is an important part of prospecting for new business.  In the real estate business, we not only network with the general public in search of new potential clients, but we network with other agents.

Real estate agents, especially buyer agents, are a prime group for every listing agent to network.  There are many ways to make this happen.  One very easy avenue is the weekly agent tour of homes in your town.  Town tour is a method of “killing two birds with one stone.”

All of the players are in attendance, and networking is easy, especially if breakfast or brunch is being served.  It’s an opportunity to discuss property and who has a potential buyer for that property.  It’s also an easy way to preview new listings.

If you’re a listing agent and you want to increase activity at your listing, participate in town tour.  Make yourself known; partake in seeing the listings of others; talk to other agents about showing your listings.  In this business, one good turn deserves another, doesn’t it?

Agents need to rely on buyer agents for their help in showing listings.  Buyer agents have the buyers, and all listing agents need to promote and support their efforts.  Cooperation is very important in this market.  Promote buyer agents showing your listings, and you’ll notice a surge in your income.

I wish we did a home tour but we don't. I do like to go to events and broker opens for this reason though! AR is also great for this! Have a great weekend Barbara!

well said Barbara...networking with other top agents is importatnt to stay sharp not only on inventory but on technology this is working and technology that is fazing out etc...

Being a secret agent, a shy Realtor, a passive professional is not beneficial.

Having the vision to learn from those around you and to share is a working education...thanks for all your great posts..I truly learn from every post you prepare.....

cheers.....

Reciprocity works every time! We have a tour in Steamboat Springs every Tuesday after our MLS meeting. It's hit or miss each week with regard to both the # of homes participating and the # of agents who take the time to do it. I agree that it is a good time to build relationships, network and share information.

I find the best networking is word of mouth, as a listing agent especially with bank owned homes i answer my phone, i return calls, i return emails promtly and treat buyer agents like i would want to be treated. They talk to each other, they tell other agents i am great to work with and i often get repeated showings and offers from buyer brokers... it pays to be nice and pays to be professional

Scott.....all of what you said is very true, but we can't do this job alone....each of us, especially today, needs a networking platform to tap into more business and to share thoughts and ideas..

Absolutely true Barbara.  The weekly marketing meetings are something I don't miss often.  While I don't often tour the homes, my buyer agents do.  It helps us be recognized and is also a good barometer to see how the market is doing along with prices.

" Cooperation is very important in this market. " I wish more agents agreed with that statement. I have come across a few Real Estate agents that do not believe in Cooperation at all. In this day and age we all need each other. I hope more Realtors see this post.

Barbara - Broker tours were always a great way to network with other agents and an excellent way to keep a pulse on current inventory.  We love buyer's agents, the more the merrier!

I wish we had a town tour around here. I have tried broker opens with very poor results, even when I served food and gave gifts away!

Barbara:

It is imperative that agent attend broker's tours and meeting.  We get to know other agents in town and develop a relationship with them so when we have an offer on one of their listings they know and trust us.

I prefer to work with a referral, providing the agent actually knows the buyer. Sometims, the agent doesn't know the buyer or has no clue what they are looking for. I have workd with those buyers but wasn't sure if I should actually use the referring agent's name since they didn't seem to know each other. What has been your experience?
