Goodbye, Blackberry - It’s Been a Blast

My BlackberryYesterday was a momentous day, for me at least.

Blackberry and I parted ways, after years of dating (and several partners), since 2002 I think. I considered myself a hardened “Crackberry” user but apparently that was not the case.

Or I found the strength, with encouragement from others, to break the habit.

Easing myself out of the relationship wasn’t that hard, in the final moments once the decision was made, but getting to the point of saying “time to say goodbye Blackberry” took a while.

Admittedly I have been putting it off.

The thought of making a major cell phone change and having to learn all kinds of new movements, buttons, and applications was not appealing. But there were good reasons for saying goodbye, in addition to concerns about RIMs’ direction and  stability, which aren’t worth getting into, and things I knew a new partner would be willing to do. LOL

My new phone and I are getting along well. As in any dating relationship, in less than 24 hours, we are learning about what we like and don’t like, and which buttons to push to get the other to do what we want.

There’s still lots of territory to cover, but time to do that. And we're still fumbling around, and those in a new relationship often do. I'm not in control yet, which is an issue.

Good thing is that I can do the essentials, like answering and making calls, texting, using my calendar, and emailing. New apps have been added and the ringtones are more pleasant than “droid!!

Goodbye Blackberry. It’s been real.

I too am leaving my Blackberry for an iPhone 5 -- but who knows when that will be. Was so disappointed in the 4s news. Good luck with your transition.

Hi Jeff,   That same debate is taking place in our office.  What I see are some agents going back to a plain, no frills cell and adding an IPad.  Hmmm...

Jeff, RIM has fallen behind for sure and I have been OUT of the Blackberry since the Curve model. Many new great products out there to choose from. I had Blackberry AND iPhones (all of them) in parallel for awhile but the tactile feel of the keyboard on the Blackberry was about the ONLY thing when I dumped it that I enjoyed.

Karen - me either. And I did not want to give up a keyboard totally. With the Droid3 I have both. Works for my style, AND my fingers.

Craig - or until Blackberry ceases to exist. The stories of the company are not good.

William - ha ha. I know you too well and knew what you would say.

Kat - icons don't bother me but YES, the battery does go down fast. And I use my phone alot. I am trying to get in the habit, as I was with my BB, to always plug it in when not using it.

George - well I looked at several but I liked the Droid3 from Motorola the best.

Pat - no doubt there are agruments about EVERY phone.

Jeff, I am getting ready to move away from my Blackberry, I need a bigger screen, need to do more with my phone. It takes time, LOL.

Glad to hear your transition is going well. These things are VERY traumatic!

I'm jumping into the same pool and giving up my BlackBerry for a Droid, too. A client asked me a couple of months ago why I was still hanging on to my dinosaur. What the? But he was right. The iPhone is popular but I think the Droid is better -- it does more. So I'll soon be joining ya in saying so long, been nice to know ya to my BB.

I've had a Blackberry since 2005.  I think the one I got earlier this year is my 3rd one now.  I seem to get about 2 years out of one before it needs replaced.

My Blackberry has been performing really crappy lately (freezing up, going dead, etc).  A while back I switched to a Droid for about 2 days.  Hated it (at least that particular phone).  I'm still hooked on the Crackberry for now.  I too just don't want to learn anything new.

Jeff-I liked hearing your perspective. I have iPhone, but think I may buck the trend and go with a dumb phone and a tablet. The small font and buttons make me spend more time getting things correct than I like. That'll mean two devices but I think on a cost and efficiency basis, I'll feel better.
