Home sales in the Austin area were up for the month of August. The number of single-family homes sold in Austin rose by 33 percent in August of this year compared to August of last year according to the Austin Board of Realtors. 1,978 homes were sold in August in Austin, and the median sale prices of homes remained unchanged at $200.000. This is the third month in a row that year-over-year home sales have been up in the Austin area. Home sales were up 9 percent in June and 31 percent in July. Nationwide the number of single-family homes rose by 8.5 percent to 4.47 million, up from 4.12 million in July. The number of homes for sale in the Austin area has also been decreasing in recent months. As we enter the fourth quarter of the year, economists are optimistic that home sales will continue to rise.
Judith Bundschuh, chairman of the Austin Board of Realtors, said, “With the impact of the homebuyer tax credits fully behind us, it’s encouraging to see three consecutive months of year-over-year growth in sales volume for Austin-area homes, particularly the strong growth seen late this summer."
