Warren County & Cincinnati Area Things to Do October 8-9 2011

You can't help but notice, the trees are telling us loud and clear, FALL is here!  And with it, plenty of opportunity to focus on the bountiful fall harvests, a little back to nature time with lots of farms opening their gates to entertain us!  So enjoy the season, click the links where we have them for more information on the available events!

Ohio Sauerkraut FestivalObviously, the HUGE local event for the weekend?  Waynesville is hosting the 42nd annual Ohio Sauerkraut Festival with sauerkraut presented to you in more ways than you'd think possible.  And with over 450 crafts vendors set up, the event is going to be packed!  Typical attendance has been over 350,000 people over the two day festival.  This year, head to Waynesville on October 8 or 9, or BOTH if you're a hardcore fan of  the Waynesville Sauerkraut Festival!

Now there's plenty of recurring events for you too:

  • Of course we've still got the Ohio Renaissance Festival in Harveysburg (on SR73 just east of Waynesville).  It's going to be much cooler this weekend, so dress accordingly since you're going to be spending a lot of time outdoors!
  • Last chance for an area Oktoberfest, so head to Clifton Friday through Sunday for Annunciation Church's Oktoberfest.  3547 Clifton Ave, Clifton. 513.221.1230 or www.AnnunciationBVParish.org
  • Need to put some BOO in your October?  Kings Island's Halloween Haunt is in full scare mode!  Lots of haunted mazes, and a good many of rides are open too!  Buy your tickets online to get the discount.  Go back to the link for more details! And for more Halloween related fun, they've got the Howl-o-Fest from noon-5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through October 31!  This part is more kid friendly, with costume contests, mazes, petting zoos, foam pits, pony rides and more!
  • And the Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad is running the Pumpkin Patch Express every weekend in October!  You can even pick & purchase your own pie pumpkin at Schappacher Farm asPumpkins part of the excursion!

And for the farm related events:

  • Lebanon's Irons Fruit Farm has a 12 acre corn maze that's now open weekends through the end of October!  Saturday's 11-5, Sundays 12-5.  Ages 4 and under free, 5-12 $4, 13 & up $6.  Located at 1640 Stubbs Mill Rd (turn at the Bob Evans at SR123), they've got fruit, jams & jellies, baked goods and more to offer too!

FallAnd for something COMPLETELY different?

Head over to VOA Park in West Chester Sunday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. to the Howloween Costumed Dog Parade

If you head down to the Cincinnati Zoo, they're hosting the HallZOOween  noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through October 23rd.  Kids 12 and under can wear costumes and trick-or-treat at the zoo!  And they'll have some special activities like pumpkin carving demonstrations, a magic show and special animal encounters!

Okay, we're probably starting to overwhelm you, but there are also Ghost Walking Tours, Haunted Houses, Haunted Hayrides and more!  This just isn't the season to say there's NOTHING to do!  So pry yourself away from the football games and get out and enjoy some LIFE!

And if you just can't survive without your football fix?  Then go to a game in person!  Get out to one of the local high school teams where it's still being played in its purest form!

So make your pick of one or more events, and we hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Fernando, There's just a "cornocopia" of things to do around here, pretty much all year long, but even more so right now as some of the strictly seasonal activities arrive.  Hope you have a great weekend too!

Who would have ever thought in their wildest dreams that a sauerkraut festival would still be going strong 42 years later!

Craig, And growing too!  350,000 people is a LOT of people, especially for a small town like Waynesville.  The normal within the city limit population per city-data.com is only about 3100.  That's a few zeros short of the Festival attendance :)
