Catharsis or katharsis (Ancient Greek: κάθαρσις) is a Greek word meaning “cleansing” or “purging“. It is derived from the verb καθαίρειν, kathairein, “to purify, purge,” and it is related to the adjective καθαρός, katharos, “pure or clean.”

I guess the first rational question anyone reading this post might be:

“Barry! Why the heck would you search Wikipedia for the word “Katharsis?”

The answer is that often I awaken at night with a random word or phrase in my mind . . . Last night, that word was Katharsis.

Weird?

Yes . . . but that’s also why Pareto Realty is called Pareto Realty . . . It seems that when we sleep, our brains really don’t turn off . . . They continue to process . . . and probably more efficiently because there’sless NOISE and INTERFERENCE and INTERRUPTIONS.

Do you listen to the thoughts that come to you in your sleep?

Do you ignore them?

Some of the greatest thinkers who ever walked on Earth got their best ideas while sleeping . . . many made habit of keeping a pad and pen next to the bed, so they could capture thoughts (without having to get out of bed) immediately upon waking.

Lost thoughts are tragic 

Why Katharsis?

Recently, I’ve been thinking a LOT about our economy, our political system, our business environment, how things are working (or not) these days . . . and imagining what’s coming.

What’s it all going to look like in 5 years?

I see around me a LOT of people doing the same things and expecting different results (an insanity petri dish)

I see companies flailing along looking for ways to SURVIVE using the same old business models.

Again from Wikipedia RE Katharsis: “extreme change in emotion, occurring as the result of experiencing strong feelings (such as sorrow, fear, pity, or even laughter). It has been described as a “purification” or a “purging” of such emotions”

That might very well describe most of the people and businesses out there scrambling to find their way through these uncharted territories . . . Things aren’t working like they used to . . .

What is needed is a good, old-fashioned PURGING.

Out with the old and in with the NEW.

All of this to encourage new thought . . . Innovation, Creation, Artistic Flair . . . Daring to wander outside the traditional boundaries and BOLDLY explore new ways.

So . . . Are you listening to your thoughts while you sleep?

If so, are you writing them down?

If so, are you taking appropriate ACTION on them?

If not, WHY?
