Drawing on Italian Culture, San Diego's Little Italy Celebrates with Festa
The Little Italy Festa will draw more than a 100,000 visitors this weekend to it's Gesso Italiano Chalk Art Competition.
As part of the Little Italy Festa Celebration, a select team of more than a dozen chalk artists will re-create a portion of Michaelangelo's ceiling of the Sistine Chapel that will span an entire city block.
The Little Italy Festa now in it's 17th year, will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the reunification of Italy with this years chalk art competition sponsored by the Little Italy Association, showcasing the customs and heritage of the Italian immigrants that settled this area of San Diego many decades ago. The galleries, restaurants and cafes will be dressed in their finery as they welcome citizens from all of San Diego to join them this Sunday starting at 10:00am for a fun filled day of festive food, music and art.
Some of the fun events will include a Pizza Tossing Contest, an Italian Motor Sport Car Show, a Boche Ball tournament, a Stick ball exhibition, the chalk art competition and a gathering of the Little Italy Chef's for a major cooking demo at the Italian Table. Italiophiles will see first hand the deconstruction of the area's best food dishes offered from the local neighborhood eateries.
