While camping at Garden of the Gods in Colorado my wife and I planned to check out Pikes Peak in Colorado. So early to bed and early to rise with visions of Pikes Peak dancing in our head we woke to find the years first snow on the 14,115 ft Pikes Peak! We quickly headed up the road towards the Peak. We were actually the first people (behind the snow plow) making for a pristine sight. Not a deep snow but still a beautiful clean, crisp blanket covered the steep road and surrounding mountain. Looking down we were in awe at the breath taking views and understood why the poem /song America The Beautiful written by Katharine Lee Bates was inspired at Pikes Peak. Pikes Peak is the most visited mountain in North America and the second most visited mountain in the world behind Japan's Mount Fuji. It was an adventure of a lifetime and one neither of us will soon forget. So if you get a chance head up the steep and winding road to check out all that Pikes Peak has to offer.

Hello John, My father took us on vacation when I was eleven and we went to Pikes Peak. I don't remember a lot about it. I do remember it being very high and my Mom worrying that I would fall off the Mountain....LOL! You would think they could think of a better name for such a beautiful Mountain. Your photos are awesome. Sometimes that cosmic hookup happens and you are the person behind the snow plow and get to see the world made new by Nature. Those are the moments to treasure and to capture. So glad you did and that you shared them with us. Beautiful! Have a great day!

Glad you dropped by this morning. You're Mom was a smart lady...one could easily take a horrible or fatal tumble if not careful. My wife kept warning me not to get so close! LOL. We thought it was a cool experience to be the first people up the awesome road behind the plow and be able to see the untouched beauty indeed the stars lined up for us on this day.

Glad you dropped by this morning. Texas is great but feels humid to me after being use to the dry heat of the Albuquerque area. We really enjoyed our two week Rocky Mountain camping trip a new and beautiful adventure to check off the ole bucket list.

I would love to be there during one of those thunder storms just for the picture taking opportunity. We just don't have that many lightning storms here and the when we do, we may get one or two strikes and the show is over.

Well I guess we missed the Cog Railway. We have taken the old Durgano to Silverton train up and down the long and winding Colorado tracks. Chug a lug a lug..... LOL.
