First Winter Storm for Colorado Springs - October 8, 2011

So much for the first frost. This morning, in Colorado Springs, we woke up to our first winter storm of the season, freezing rain mixed with snow. With temperatures in the 70's just two days ago, we feel this is pretty sudden. I didn't even get a chance to clean out my new garden because just yesterday, everything was in full bloom. I guess I have my work cut out for me when the weather breaks.

I don't envy the local high school band kids, they have a competition scheduled in this weather. I wish them luck, particularly Pine Creek High School, but I won't be there to cheer them on today.

It is beautiful. I'm sure the dog loves it! My shihtzu loves snow, but doesn't get much since we've moved to St. Augustine. She misses it more than I, I'm sure!

Quite a contrast from days huh?  I love snow and the first snowfall of the year (when I lived in Alaska) used to always make me giddy. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Margo and Debb,

I am usually ready for the next season, but this year fall was less than a month. Normally we don't get our first snow until the end of October. But, I'm not complaining, really. We had such a dry winter last year that most people had winter kill in their yard. We are hoping to get snow all winter long.

Li,

Shiloh really does love the snow, just not the blowing and freezing rain.

Nancy, I'm with the dog.  Who wants to go out in that?  I'm sorry about your garden, it was so pretty just yesterday.

Silvia - Thanks.  The garden was beautiful and I knew this day would come eventually. We usually have a frost by now, so we enjoyed the garden longer than usual. Now I am anxious to get my spring bulbs in the ground.
