Pay it Forward: Volunteering for Graceworks Ministries
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. (1 Timothy 6: 17-19)
For awhile now, God has been tugging at my heart to really get involved with helping those less fortunate in my community. I have never had a problem giving generously of my money but my time is a precious commodity to me.
This week, I finally took the plunge to do something more than just supporting ministries financially. On Thursday, I attended a volunteer orientation at Graceworks Ministries. Graceworks is dedicated to helping needy families in Williamson County by providing assistance through a food pantry, thrift store, senior transportation, community service fairs, and fundraising events. The ministry functions with the help of 200+ volunteers.
I am not sure how I will be used but there will be opportunities for me to meet with Graceworks clients, help with clerical duties or assist with grant writing.
I am very excited about this new opportunity to serve my community of Franklin TN and my God. I feel I have been richly blessed and am excited about how God is going to use me to bless others. I hope to write about my experiences with Graceworks and all the opportunities that I will have to pay it forward.
