Quality customer service in my market is sort of like the Mumps. Rare, but you know it when you see it. Frankly my service expectations were pretty low. I simply needed to run into the store and buy a book on the way home.
The evening did not begin on a positive note. On my way into the grocery store I had to navigate through a group of employees smoking near the interest. Nothing screams I don't give a dam like blowing 2nd hand smoke all over the customer. Just a quick jog into the bookstore and my evening shopping would be done.
Then I met Shanequia. How do I know her name? She greeted my wife and I as we entered! After making our selections she motioned us over to the snack bar. While other reps tried to hide from us, Shanequia sought us out.
And she is an amazing sales person. We went to the counter with a small book and one magazine. We left with two magazines (which she reccommended) and of course some fresh brewed tea. Overcoming my initial rejection of a treat, she asked me what drink I would purchase IF I was buying a drink.
I mentioned a love of Peach tea. Without asking, she started brewing a fresh batch. How could I say no? When my wife asked for a cup it would have been easy for her to make another batch of peach. After all, the tea bags were already out. Nope, not Shanequia. Five minutes later my wife was enjoying a cup of blackberry tea.
All told she "upsold" us from 12-14 bucks all the way to 33 dollars! Both her atiitude and sales skills were first rate. Her work ethic put some much needed pep in my step. At the end of the transaction I gave her a business card. If she every gets the urge, there is a desk waiting for her at Bayou Properties Realty.
