Coors Field 2007 World Series

As the entire world knows by now the Colorado Rockies were victims of the Boomerang Broom (reverse sweep).  They lost the first four games of the World Series here last night. Read bummer!

It was a bummer for the Rockies of course, they tried but like deer frozen in the headlights they couldn't find their game. The Sox pitchers creamed them.

Mostly it was a bummer for the fans who wanted more of a contest; a game or two more.  Yes a stretch of the excitement.

Today it hit me too as I  noted the vendors on the street liquidating their overstock of Colorado Rockie Fan Crapola.  Items that were very pricey just a few short hours ago, were now marked down below cost. Ouch!

The loss of the Series I equate to this, the Rockie goal was to win the Wild Card, not the World Series.  They stopped short of mentally preparing for the whole series.

How many of us do this?  How many of us have a goal to get a listing, rather than SELL a listing?  How many times do we set a goal to short of what we are capable of achieving?

More often than we realize.

Don't sell yourself short, reach and achieve.

Go BRONCOS!

Dena ~ I wasn't AT Coors Field I was near.  Vali sold a loft with THAT view...we did a photo shoot for her Florida buyer who wanted a night photo.  Think he will like it?

I do.

Excellent point KK. I know I have done it. Not focused on the real goal because I was fixated on an intermediate goal.

Interesting observation regarding getting a listing rather than selling a listing. Profound!

Crystal,

Great analogy.  We need to think like Tom Brady of the Patriots...total domination in our market.

I have some friends out in Denver and I felt bad for them. Plus I don't really care for the sox so I was rooting for the Rockies. I would have liked to see them do a little more and make it more of series. :-(

It was a great ride and highly improbable that they the Rockies made it this far. They used their energy getting there and the tank was dry. They had never been this high before. Look how much better you guys feel that the Yankee fans who expected and bought themselves the place, but missed. Long suffering Saints Fan. LSU fans are another story, the team is expected to crush every team they play. Its just what you are used to.

The Broncos just lost.  I've decided to give up sports in favor of blogging.  It's so much easier on my heart.

p.s. I'm picking up the pieces. again. ;(

Great point Krystal!  Look what the Rockies did achieve.  Setting their sights on the wildcard slot and actually making it to the World Series.  Considering they spent most of the regular season at the bottom of the division the wildcard goal was probably realistic.  They overshot their goal and easily made it so much further.  Another lesson:  Don't stop just because you have reached your initial goal.  You may surprise yourself with just how far you can make it!

Kristal,  Bummer is right.  I wanted the Rockies to win but, at the very least,  make a contest of it.  And, bummer 2, the Broncos lost in overtime to the Packers.  How much sorrow can one city handle?

Good points about the goals.  Every day is a new day and we don't have to wait until the new year to make some resolutions and new goals.

Crafty relation between the sports world and the professional world.  The Rockies just didn't have the depth... Makes you think what do you have in your arsenal when the going gets tough?

Very wise and perceptive ... maybe the Broncos could have you do a pre-game blog instead of a pep talk. There's still a long way to go, but the remaining schedule looks tough - 6 of 9 on the road.

Great pic of the ballpark! Will you have time to get some shots when you're here for NAR?

Kristal I know what you mean, being a Baltimore Oriole fan for quite a few decades now. It's a sad road lol.  Luckily there is more to life than baseball.  I have to say that because it's over.

Ok on topic. I am up because I am still psyched about a training session I had with our Prez (My company not Bush lol).  I had two ideas come to me just before falling asleep!  Blogging is a good motivator; sure helped me set goals. I guess an old dog can learn new tricks :-)

And John wants you to take his photo :-)

I agree completely.  Too many agents will do what ever it takes to sign a listing and then have to explain three months later why they can not sell it.  Instead of having a goal of selling listings.  if they started with that goila they would not be taking listings that they can not sell.

I like how you tied it n with not giving up KK. The Red Sox took 86 years to win a world series and now they have 2 wins in 4 years. They never gave up. Love that photo!

Kristal - You are onto something with your question "setting your goals high enough" because people who really raise their goals and believe in them have an advantage.  The reason I believe this is because if you find someone who wants to go from 25 sales a year to 30...that person is hoping for a couple extra sales.  Find someone wanting to go from 25 sales to 100 sales in a year and you have found someone who is willing to improve and make personal changes.

Hi Kristal - love your analogy of preparing for the RIGHT goal, whatever the situation.

The Red Sox played each game with the goal in sight of winning the World Series, and they did just that.

When the Patriots aren't playing, I am for Denver, but I have to say - GO PATRIOTS!

Kristal! Wonderful analogy. A really big goal is scary for most people who would rather play it safe, but it sure can get the juices flowing. Good reminder and impactful way of delivering your message!

It was the middle relievers which could not get the job done. Just as it is in real estate. Moving the deal through the process is the hardest part.

Hey Kristal

Great post nicely tied together - I wasn't sure where you were headed.

I practice saying - I don't want your listing I want to sell your home at the beginning and end of my listing presentation

I think they were beat because they don't have the team depth of the Red Sox......but it's kinda of hard to equate that to the moral of the story so ummm you are completely correct in your diagnosis!!!! Sorry I felt we needed some reality.....I will say the photo of the stadium is priceless!!

I think Boston beat them because they were simply better then the Rockies.  Rockies are a young team, and they will be competitive for some time to come.  The Rockies are building their dynasty through younger talent, and you'll see another run or two before it's all over.  The Bronco's on the other hand....ewww...they need a new coach..

Good post:

Goal setting is important.  But, it is vital to set the strategy to get to the goal.  Otherwise, numbers are just numners on a piece of paper.

I think your saying, they prepared for the wild-card, not the World Series is SO very true, and your right, it can be that mentality in all our aspects of life's goals.  I always set goals, and secondary goals.  The goals I really want to achieve, and other goals which I realize I may not reach, but it would be awesome if I could accomplish that as well as my initial goals.

Hey Krystal, coming from Cleveland, and a life long fan and ticket holder, I am still staring at my World Serices ticket on the wall in my office. Hey, move on, there is always Next Year. I like your attitude and drive, as we need to get off the negativity and look at the markets with opportunity and learning. I have been in this industry for 17 years and have seen it all. My blogs I hope are as positive in finding the silver lining as yours. How many teams out there wish they were in the Rockies position to be at the Big Game.

Agree Completely ... I use CreateAPlan to set goals and than can adjust them easily to raise the bar.  But you make a great point of the type of goal you set.  How many of us focus on GCI when we really should be focusing on the profit our business is making?

That is a really great picture Kristal... alas, the ROX got swept, much to the excitement of Jim Cronin.  But we had an incredible run.

It was fun to have all the excitement of the World Series in Colorado.

I like the analogy. You are right on this. We need to continue to raise the bar.

p.s...I wanted the Rookies to win.

Sports are amazing. You have winners and losers. But most importantly you must have sportsmanship so everybody is a winner. I to am sorry you did not win. I am not at all a NY fan of any sports.

Goal setting is such an important part of getting to where we want to, but it is also important to set the right goals.  I liked the example you used, we might aim to get listings but the goal really should be to sell them.

Kristal,

The Rockies didn't but you Rock! Great post and an amaaazingg picture! That is some shot you took! That is a great analogy you made there. Many times we set goals that are not too high and in the event that we reach it, we become lost. Aim high in steering and aim high in our goals!

Fabulous photo and great way to think, beyond the short term...  I read through your profile and have admired you work on the internet for some time....  great work,  I love what you say about blamming the internet for the false expectations for the public,  I have that clients be extremely excited about properties on the internet and then find the properties that were not well marketed the stronger buy.  But I truly believe you have found one of the stongest presence out there on the interenet for our market.  Malou
