Second Annual Farm Tour Day, October 15, 2011

San Diego County agriculture is a $1.6 billion industry, with the County being tops in the production of avocados and poinsettias. We're also well known for mushrooms, succulents and cactus, and wine grapes.

On Saturday, October 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., you can visit six of San Diego's largest farms. You can choose from six tour stops in any order you'd like to visit:

North Broadway in Escondido

• Mountain Meadow Mushroom — Go behind the scenes to see where gourmet mushrooms get their start.
• Oasis Water Efficient Gardens — You haven't seen color and texture in a garden until you visit Oasis!

North Escondido

• Stone Farms — One of the largest suppliers or organic produce.
• Matheson Ranch — A 10-acre avocado grove.

Twin Oaks Valley

• Sunshine Mountain Vineyard — Five acres of wine grapes that go to produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Viognier, and Petit Syrah.
• Western Cactus — An international supplier of rare and endangered cactus and succulents.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children age 6-17, and children under 6 are free. You can register online at www.sdfarmbureau.org/Tour.
