Royal Gorge Is A World Wonder

The Royal Gorge is a world wonder and is often called the Grand Canyon of Arkansas River.

Whether you’re walking or driving across the Royal Gorge Bridge you will marvel at the breathtaking views.  The Royal Gorge Bridge hangs 965 up and is stabilized by cables alone.  It spans a quarter mile across the granite canyon that was carved out by water.

Take a ride on one of the world’s longest aerial tram at the Royal Gorge.  Its length is 2,200 feet and is 1,178 feet above the bottom or 6 seconds to death if one should drop.  Opps did I just say that?

My wife and I enjoyed a full day of walking, sight seeing, zipping across the amazing Royal Gorge via the Tram and of course we both had to drive across the Royal Gorge Bridge just to do it.  Another Colorado adventure neither will soon forget.

Good Morning John,  It has been a while since I visited the Royal Gorge.  Just looking at your pictures brings back that slighty dizzy feeling I had when I looked down.  It is an amazing place.  I remember the deer walking right up to us and eating grapes out of our hands.  You took some great pictures.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi John,  I guess this is one place in the state I did not visit yet,  Think it has something to do with heights.

Hi John - Great photos. It looks like you did a pretty complete tour of Colorado on your trip. Like Will, I'm not much for heights, but I've been across that bridge on foot and bike. The scenery is awesome, but it still gave me the willies.

Hello Belinda.  I figured you would have, I think its one of those top things to see and do in Colorful Colorado. Would love to go back some day soon.  I do recall deer being quite near but never close enough to feed.  How fun is that! With that many tourist I'm sure it all old hat to them.  Enjoy your Wednesday!

Hi James,  I have been to the Grand Canyon about three times and it really is awesome.  This place however really gives you that feel of just how deep this gorge is. They guy on the tram crossing explained it has 8 seconds to death. Yikes!

Howdy Dick,  Oh I agree the heights are not good to the head or stomach but I still felt relatively safe.  They had this Sky coaster ride that basically launched you out over the Gorge then would swing like a giant pendulum. No way no how not ever! That's just nuts!

Here is a little YouTube Link of that Ride

Q Man - (just trying it out -lol) - Royal Gorge is such a cool place and I didn't know it had the worlds longest aerial tram. You photos make me want to go there and see it up close and personal. I love heights, so this would be a lot of fun!

Hi Kristine.   Hey it works..you got my attention :>).  Kristine, I'm pretty sure the worlds longest aerial tram is here in Albuquerque not over the Royal Gorge in Colorado.  The Gorge tram may be the highest..Not sure about that though.  I'm open for discussion.  If you love heights then you would certainly love the Gorge. So did you take the Sky Coaster?

Hi There Joni,  We never did check out the chain ride..ie cost, length, time etc.  Although it has to be amazing to be in the bottom of the that gorge. Hope no one is tossing rock over the bridge or worse..Yikes.  Just stick Hubby on the Sky Coaster. From the YouTube clip it looks like it ain't all that..But when your seeing how deep the gorge is Holy Cow Batman its insane!

Hello John, WOW does this take me back. My Dad tooks us on a family trip to Colorado when I was about 9 or 10 and we went to see the Royal Gorge. I still remember it very well and your photos are fun for me. Somewhere I have old photos taken on the trip. I remember being amazed at there being a train down there. I wanted to ride the train....and my Dad said yes....but we never did. He once told me he's buy me a Mercedes Benz when I graduated from HS. He didn't do that either but he got good grades out of me. He once told me who said Parents can't lie to their kids if it has a good purpose. Worked for me. Love my Dad and we had fun on this trip. Thanks for bringing back good memories! Have a beautiful day!
