Selling Your Home? 5 Easy Ways to Make a Stunning First Impression this Season.
Here, in Colorado, we’ve had our first visit from Jack Frost. Fall’s gorgeous foliage makes one last encore before its time to clean up the flower beds. With summer’s blooms gone, it can be quite challenging for sellers to create colorful, curb appeal. Here are 5 high-impact, low-cost ways for your home to really rock the competition.
Take a look at these before and after shots from Country Living.
Now, which one would you want to check out?
Pretty dramatic. How can you get this look?
1. Lipstick Red Front Door. Heritage Red (Benjamin Moore).
Paint, paint, oh please paint your front door. A sun-faded, peeled and chipped front door tells buyers this home has been neglected. Of course, red may not be the best choice for your home, although we stagers love to recommend this tried and true favorite where appropriate. Consider a fresh, updated hue. Here are a few new ones:
Wicked (C2 Paint) a rich, deep plum paired with sage green or earthy tan and cream trim.
Carriage Green (Farrow & Ball) dark, spruce green that’s a classic with brick or gray homes.
An inky, blue-black like Baby Seal (Benjamin Moore) with light yellow, or white for instant drama.
2. Jazz up your House Numbers. Surprisingly, that red door is not expensive, etched glass, rather just a plain plate glass with frosty, vinyl adhesive adding loads of character to those house numbers. If you’re just re-painting your front door, check out local home improvement centers and online sites. They offer numbers in a myriad of creative, typographic styles making it easier for buyers to find you.
3. Dapper Door Mat. How would the After photo look with that old mat? Keep it fresh and complement the scheme.
4. Lights, camera, action. Don’t you just love these aluminum barn lights? Lighting can’t be overstated. Update those brass front door (and garage) fixtures and highlight your home’s new upgrades.
5. Bling it up with Accessories. Door knockers, knobs, kick plates, wall-mounted mail boxes all complete the look. Draw attention to your show-stopping entry.
One last comment - notice the tastefully done seasonal décor? Mother Nature is the best decorator. Pine boughs in your patio pots are a fresh way to accentuate and soften the architecture. Love those glittery, purple branches at Michael’s? A good rule of thumb is, if you don’t find it outside your window, then it probably shouldn’t go on your porch. J
Cheers to a successful sale!
