The City of Alvin’s Fire Marshal, Martin Vela, has turned in his resignation to accept a position as Brazoria County’s Fire Marshal. Martin has been on site to review plans on the Home Depot, Alvin Independent School District’s new schools, Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites, La Quinta Inn and Suites, Dish Network, and many other commercial and residential new starts.
Martin Vela was hired as the City of Alvin’s Fire Marshal in June of 2000, by the Police Department. For the past five years, the Fire Marshal’s office has relocated to the Fire Department and he has worked diligently to improve on the City’s fire codes and help to update some of the city’s ordinances.
I have had the privilege to work with Martin on a weekly basis and I will miss him. Who ever replaces his position will have some big shoes to fill!
