Clear out your GMAIL easily! Why pay for a VANITY email address?

Reblogger Wallace S. Gibson, CPM

I don't understand why EVERYONE does not have a gmail account.....When I see people with MSN or even MINDSPRUNG accounts, I want to DELETE them and never read them.....I too get my gmail on my Evo smartyphone AND my Toshiba tablet....everywhere I want to be!

A while back, I posted that I had gone to the cloud!  The GOOGLE cloud to be more precise.

I can access documents ANYWHERE through GOOGLE DOCS..

I get my email ANYWHERE through GMAIL.

I can send email FROM any of my email accounts through one account with GMAIL

I keep track of appointments (both on my computer or on the fly) anywhere  with my CALENDAR powered by GOOGLE.

I store THOUSANDS of photos that I can access (and share) from anywhere with Picassa powered by GOOGLE.

I have my own VIDEO CHANNEL, accessible from anywhere and powered by YOUTUBE and GOOGLE.

There are tons of things you can do with GOOGLE and it's all free! (Disclaimer, I paid $5/year for an additional 20G of storage in Picassa, so ALMOST free).

When things are free, however, we tend to take them for granted.

I found that to be true as I looked at my email account this morning.  If you're like me you get a couple hundred emails a day.  MANY of them are junk.  Some of them are only SORT OF JUNK.

And others are downright important.

Let's talk a minute about the downright important things...anything that has to do with a lead, a client, a sale, a friend, someone I know...they all get opened immediately and dealt with.  Those don't get to build up and many are kept for future reference.

Some of the junk gets DELETED right away...I mean, I don't open property flyers from other agents.  EVER!  I don't open things from the Prince of far awar African countries that want my help moving thier fortunes to the US (yeah, I know, I MIGHT miss out one day but I'm taking my chances I guess), I don't open most emails that come in multiple times at the same time (you know, stuff that the sender, umm, advertiser thought I would be so interested in that they sent it to me 3 times in 4 minutes, and many other things that hit the trash almost upon arrival (GMAIL does a great job of directing SPAM to a separate inbox so I don't get a LOT of blatant spam).

It's the other things...things that don't get opened right away because they are not really important, even if you might actually WANT to look at them or read them.

Stuff from NAR.

Interesting ads for products I might be getting ready to investigate.

Some INSPIRATIONAL emails from sources I know send good stuff from time to time.

Stuff from the home warranty companies that I like but don't necessarily have time for today...but MIGHT tomorrow.

Things like that.  You know what I'm talking about...things that you'd love to read IF YOU FIND TIME (yet you never find time!)

So what ends up happening, at least to me is an overstuffed email inbox.  Now, I guess I COULD pay GOOGLE some money (not even very much money, but certainly not something I WANT to pay for if I don't have to). So here we go,  here's how you clean out that Google Inbox.

If you're like me, you LIKE the regular "CLASSIC" GMAIL inbox.  It puts the newest thing right at the top, regardless if it's been read or not.   But for this clean out, I'll show you another way to "view" your inbox.

Log into your GMAIL account.
Click on the GEAR

Google

 Click on Mail Settings

Google

Click on INBOX

Google

Click on the drop down box for CLASSIC and go to UNREAD FIRST:

Google

Save those CHANGES! :)

Google

Scan through that top portion for all the unreads you're trying to purge.  When I did this, I clicked the SELECT all button and browsed through to see if there was anthing that I really wanted to keep (remember, GOOGLE MAIL is completely searchable so, keep if i you think you'd like to go back later.  You might want to CLICK on it and open it just to keep it from popping up at the top of the unreads every time!

Google

Thanks all there was to it!  I cleaned out over 6000 emails in about 30 minutes and condensed my inbox to a manageable amount of space!

Plus, now it's easier to "see" in the inbox when something NEW comes in!

Follow the instructions again to change your inbox back to "CLASSIC" again, if you're a creature of habit like me!

I was instructed to send contracts by email to an agent with a hotmail account last week.  Hotmail can't take an attachment that large, I had to split it.  She "doesn't have time" to set up gmail!  Everyone should have gmail accounts.  I have several and each serves me well.

Wallace, I also have several gmail accounts for awhile now. All my other e-mail accounts get funneled to gmail so I only log on to one account to read or delete them. More efficient and it's free.

Hi Wallace - I am too lazy to make the switch.  Yolanda's comments are interesting.  I wonder how she does that?

I have several and have them bookmarked in my FAVORITES on my AOL and I have them on the HomePage of my smartyphone.  I don't need them to all come into one - I check some more frequently than others

Anything you put in google DOCs becomes their property. They can use your pics etc. Also they are not responsible for your data. They can dump it at anytime with no recourse.

I use everything Google execpt DOCs. I use Jungle Disc for my cloud storage.  Many realtors use Google DOCs for very short term storage. It's handy when you're already using GMail, calendar etc. They use Jungle Disc or some other cloud for longer term storage.
