Chickens and farms just seem to go together and the horse farm I showed the other day was no exception. As we walked around we came upon the hen house and inside we found a nest with a couple eggs. But what surprised me was seeing a golf ball with those eggs. How in the world did that golf ball get in there??

Well it seems to get a hen to learn to sit in the nest and lay eggs the farmer puts something there that is round to get her into the 'mood'. Some farmers use round door knobs and others....well a golf ball will do the trick.

I must say in this business I see and learn something new everyday.

I've heard of a rooster in the hen house but never a golfer... LOL.  A much needed chuckle after a day of stress.  Thanks Martha.

Martha

I had chickens when I was a kid and I recall that my parents were told that was how to get the chickens to do their thing. It worked, for whatever reason.

Hi Martha - Well, chickens and farms may go together, but so do chickens and Fair Oaks CA.  My town is famous for its feral chickens, and we have had hens lay eggs on our office doorstep!  They don't seem to need a golf ball, although when I was little I think my grandparents did something like that to get their hens to get started.

Good Morning Martha,  Very interesting about a golf ball,  this is a new one on me, wonder what would happen if it was a yellow golf ball?

Martha - That's funny, I've never heard of that before, but it makes sense.

John- Glad I brought a chuckle to your day. It brought a chuckle to mine as well. :0)

Jeff- I had never heard this before so was quite surprised. Makes sense though.

Margaret- This certainly was new to me as I did not grow up around chickens. I was a river baby. LOL

Susan- Laying eggs on your front steps of the office is even more amazing than a golf ball in the hen house. :0)

Will- I have no idea...maybe bigger yolks??? :0)

Michelle- Me either but it did make sense once I heard the reason.

Bridget- we are doing a 2nd showing tomorrow so we will see.
