Hidden taxes or 9-9-9??

Many of you have probably seen this in an email forward or on the Internet.  Maybe just a little sarcastic but the ideas expressed ring so true.

Tax his land, tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirts,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.

Tax his chew, tax his smoke,
Teach him taxes are no joke.
Tax his car, tax his grass,
Tax the roads he must pass.

Tax his food, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his sodas, tax his beers,
If he cries, tax his tears.

Tax his bills, tax his gas,
Tax his notes, tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers, tax him more,
Tax him until he's good and sore.
Tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.

Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"
And when he's gone, we won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance tax
.

OR
9-9-9
Herman Cain

Hidden, "sneaker taxes"  are embedded in the cost of every single product or service that we buy! If we decide that the oil companies need more taxes then we end paying at the pump.  If we tax sugar because it makes us fat then the price of a cookie or Coke goes up. Those taxes are everywhere and the hidden taxes are the worst! 4 years ago we were promised transparency in government.  Still Waiting.  9-9-9 is a huge step to making our tax code more transparent.  It will attract foreign businesses to locate here instead of US businesses moving away. Businesses here will be more likely to expand.  Growing the economy is the best way to solve the economic crisis and create JOBS.  Penalizing the producers will only prolong the pain.

For a long time I have been a supporter and proponent of the Fair Tax.  Without going in to my assumptions, the more I look at 9-9-9, I really like it.  There are some details still to be explained which I can take a stab at but it would be better left to the candidate and staff. A lot of people have questions and concerns regarding the sales tax portion especially.  The answers are out there. I have a good idea what the answers are but I will leave the explanations to the experts for now.

I am guessing that you honestly believe that Herman Cain would make a good president ?  Wow !  How folks can open up and swallow hard when hearing the silliness that he comes out with in the debates... just mystefies me.  I so hope he gets the nomination.

Then, he can join the ranks of Bob Dole, John McCain, and others who got blown out of the water in past presidential elections.

I am so 100% with you.  Even if the 9/9/9 didn't bring in enough initially, we can simply print the money like our government has been doing.  In the longer run, it is a guarantee that such a simplistic code would make the economy change, return manufacturing to our shores, etc.  It's a good idea.  It would be unfortunate if it became 10/10/10 in the end, and everyone beat him up over it.  The reality is, 10/10/10 would be great.

In the end, the one problem is that thousands of attorneys, accountants, IRS agents, etc. would be out of work.  I'd be out as I now do estate tax appraisals and gift tax appraiasals.  They wouldn't be needed anymore, nor would all I've learned in my 20+ years of doing this work be useful any longer.

Despite it all - I'm in.  It will take some personal sacrifices to save a great country.

Herman Cain is adding that 9 percent tax to services, too.  So, instead of a 6 percent commission, the sellers will pay a 15 percent commission.  And if you want to buy a NEW home, add that 9 percent sales tax to the price.  Oh, he is a realtor's best friend.

In theory the solution sounds like an easy and effective solution to a bigger problem. Based on the personalities of our current administration and respective houses it would be a tough sell to get a tax bill passed. Right now too many ego's are involved and nothing is being done for the local municipalities or their citizens.

He is personally not my pick at all. Lots of politicians talk but very few walk the walk.

Karen, Laura, Diane -  All opinions are welcome as long as everybody is civil.  Thanks!

David-  thanks for your input.

Don- I can address that.  I am heading out the door right now but I will either come back here and add comment or do it it as a second post.  Thanks

Hi Bob,  Pretty weak group to choose from.  This is Cain's moment in the limelight.  Economists are looking at his proposal and with that will come a rapid fall in his standings !

How much would you save on reduced CPA or tax attorney expenses?

Smaller IRS?

The point is: all these taxes, assessments, rebates, loopholes, etc do NOT benefit the taxpayer they only benefit the special interest groups. I would rather pay 10% on every purchase than spend a month trying to figure out my tax return.

There are pre-bates and rebates that can help the truly poor. Unlike Mr. Buffet, who thinks taxes should be higher, but is fighting his $1 billion tax bill!

Whether it is 9-9-9, 10-10-10... or even 3-3-3!!  Still is an invasion upon our "private property rights".  Not just real estate... but our INCOME!  Nothing would please me more than a politician running for the Presidency that would abolish the IRS as we know it today.. abollish the tax amendment taxing our INCOME, come up with ONLY a consumption tax that becomes equal to ALL, capital gains to equal the consumption tax, TERM limitations for Congress (2 is enough), NO retirement for Congress (they must pay into their OWN retirement plan), NO HEALTHCARE for them paid BY US, they must contribute into the same as we do, etc!!  Just some simple changes, to bring those elected politicians back to Earth!!

Oh, also.. an outside firm to investigate ALL of the CONGRESS and WH administration / staff, and go after those that have committed crimes against this country and the taxpayers, and prosecute them to the fullest!!  We all know which ones they should start with, too!!

Whew....

Dan in #9:  Wow... what a bizarre rant your comment is.  I sure am glad that you only have one vote.  Your suggestions for our government are a quick recipe for disaster.  You show a definite lack of understanding for so much.  and yes... I said the same thing after I read your entire comment.  Whew !

Don- I was not aware there was a tax on services but if so then I would think the tax would be on th ecost of the service.  9% tax on a 6% commission pushes it to 5.54.  Also with the corp tax reduction and payroll tax reduction the hidden embedded cost of the product goes down.  That applies whether it is a loaf of bread or a new home.  Every single vendor and manufacturer that produces a component of the new home has a cost reduction.  If you have ever worked with builders or contractors you know they will beat the crap out of the supply chain to reduce price.

Bill- Regarding economists, Art Laffer has looked at the plan and given it raving reviews.  The Wall Street Journal also seems to be supportive. Will there be opposing opinions... there always is.  We know how common opinions are.

Nick-Thanks for the feature.

All- Thanks for the comments pro or con.  Like I mentioned earlier.  I dont mind opposing viewpoints as long as we play nice.

Here are some quotes from economist Art Laffer...

"Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan would be a vast improvement over the current tax system and a boon to the U.S. economy,"

"The goal of supply-side tax reform is always a broadening of the tax base and lowering of marginal tax rates."

"Mr. Cain’s plan is simple, transparent, neutral with respect to capital and labor, and savings and consumption, and also greatly decreases the hidden costs of tax compliance. There is no doubt that economic growth would surge upon implementation of 9-9-9."

Laffer also said that "such a system provides the least avenues to avoid paying taxes, yet also maintains the strongest incentives for work effort, production, and investment."

Bravo, bravo, bravo, Nick!  I don't know the details of 9-9-9, but I like the concept.  Everyone paying the same percentage, tax code simplified...he has my attention just with those to statements alone.

One great way to start would be to get the Senate up to 60 Democrats, and the House back with a Democratic majority.  Then we might be able to get something done.

I rather get rid of the IRS all together and eliminate any Federal taxes. When selling the IRS to the American public in the early 1900's, they told us that it would be 1% of our income. It then grew to a huge burden with countless pages of laws. 9-9-9 just gives the government a new revenue stream. I found it wonderful during the debate when they asked Cain how he can prevent 9-9-9 from becoming a higher number, his last statement was that, as president, he wouldn't let it go higher. Then you can hear Ron Paul say "You're not going to be president forever" before the commercial break.

Look, Cain's idea of 9-9-9 is a disaster. Cain, himself, is not intelligent enough to understand the issues facing us today. whether it be foreign policy or monetary policy, he is a failure. Romney is just a politician with Liberal leanings. Bauchman means well, but she still doesn't understand the issues well enough to be a great leader.

Looking through the field, the only one who has been warning us of what will happen and why it will happen is Ron Paul. The only one that understands economy, foreign policy and monetary policy is Ron Paul. The only one candidate that fully understands our rule of law is Ron Paul. People should be giving this guy more attention.

I came across Ron Paul after reading a book called "None dare call it a conspiracy" and researching the information in the book. Ron Paul (among others) were the only ones talking about the role of the Federal reserve at a time when most Americans had no idea what the Federal Reserve was.
