Tip Jar: Stake Through the Heart VS a Silver Bullet

If you are trying to kill a Vampire or a Werewolf,  those are great weapons. But those tools do not work when it comes to killing the common cold and flu virus. The best remedies for combating the common cold are...

1) Rest. We cannot stress this enough. If you don't get enough sleep (the number is different for everyone, but aim for 7-8 hours), your immune system will be just as slow and unproductive as you are the next day...we all need rest to heal and strengthen our defenses!

2) Bone up on your vitamins. When the farmers markets go away and summer's produce selection dwindles, people turn to lots of comforting carbs over salads. It's tough, but don't let your nutritional intake suffer! Reach for wintery greens, sweet potatoes, beets, and other root vegetables, cranberries, pears, and apples to stay healthy as flu season strikes. With lots of garlic. Take a multivitamin to be on the safe side.

3) Heed Mom's nagging advice and wash those hands! Sanitize your workplace and commonly used door and drawer handles, copy machines, and telephones in addition to frequent hand washing. And remember, keep your hands out of the mouth, eyes, and nose.  Wipe your devices, such as your phone and tablet, regularly with a microfiber cloth to clean those germy touchscreens. Leave the wooden stake and silver bullets at home and pack some antibacterial soap and disinfecting wipes instead. Oh and please, watch where you sneeze!

So, tell us, how do you prepare for those creepy colds and viruses?

I buy ZICAM at the beginning of the season - I've had great luck with it. Here in Colorado we also have an herbal formula called Kick Ass Immunce Activator by Wish Garden Herbs that works really well. Oh just checked their site seems they may have renamed it a more appropriate Kick-It Immune Activator. Their deep stress formulas are nice too (and no I don't work for them... in fact, I don't even know them but their formulas are famous here) http://www.wishgardenherbs.com/index.html
