We all roll our eyes when we see another dreaded ugg boot spam message or the new $77 coffee one that is going around. Nobody cares that your cheap knock off Fendi shades are for sale!! No I don't want you to write an essay for me. So we hit "Report a Concern" and eventually they disappear. Most members have gone to Settings and unchecked the "Allow non-member comments" box but it's a never-ending cycle and one we'd like to do more about.
To further prevent the spread of spam, we have some options:
1. Make it so that every comment must come from a fully registered account. We'd be able to easier identify the spam profiles and delete them as fast as we delete the comment. This means no consumer comments as well (are you getting a ton now?)
2. Make the captcha standard when leaving any comment. A shadowed captcha that makes it nearly impossible for the professional spammers to dilute our posts. This means you would have to enter "ancestry rhubarb" each and every time you comment.
So my lovely members....what say you? If you had to choose #1 or #2 what would it be?
