Gravity Glue

By
Home Inspector with JRV Home Inspection Services, LLC HOI 394

Patch made from roll roofing to cover unused plumbing vent flashing.Home inspectors love to joke about the favorite repair products of homeowners and professionals a like, duct tape and caulk. There literally seems to be an unending number of uses for these two materials. There are also a few other less used, but just as creatively applied products like wire or roofing tar (a crude form of caulk). Now add to that gravity glue.

What is gravity glue you ask?

Well it seems to be a new miracle adhesive that magically holds repairs in place, for example this hole in a roof. Some handyman apparently removed a waste pipe vent from this flashing boot and as a result had a hole to fix. Not sure where the pipe went, but that’s another story.

Not a drop of water to be seen.This patch is a piece of roll roofing material mashed down around the flashing very effectively shielding the hole. When I checked inside the house in the attic, I didn’t see even the smallest hint of a water stain. Very impressive. What I also could not see, either top side or down below was any sign of an adhesive. So I have to believe what all of us already know;

Gravity works!

No water stains? Very impressive..since water would travel in the path of least resistance, this looks like the handyman while not applying a conventional fix, managed to figure out how to keep water from traveling in thei area...wow

Jim,

Sometimes a fix will work, but then again it may not ; ) We have all seen funky fixes that for what ever reason works at least for a little while ; )

Is Gravity Glue wind resistant?  I wonder what a good storm will do to the fix.

Linda, Yes it is hard to argue with "success". ;)

Peg, Yes indeed.

Dawn, Yes, but this ain't it.

Lisa, I can't believe it will hold for long either.

David, Yep, it is pretty funny.

Charlie, And if not wind snow :)

Don, The operative words are a little while.

Gene, If the wind don't move it the snow surely will.

Will, And hopefully you will never see it used :)

Billy Jays, Fer sure. This is another fine fix done by a quality professional using your top shelf products.

As George Carlin used to say, it's not so much that the force of gravity is in effect, as the fact that the earth sucks. Then he would let go of the bowing ball he was holding to illustrate his point.

Now if you had a bowling ball to close that hole, and a bit of caulk......
