Home inspectors love to joke about the favorite repair products of homeowners and professionals a like, duct tape and caulk. There literally seems to be an unending number of uses for these two materials. There are also a few other less used, but just as creatively applied products like wire or roofing tar (a crude form of caulk). Now add to that gravity glue.
What is gravity glue you ask?
Well it seems to be a new miracle adhesive that magically holds repairs in place, for example this hole in a roof. Some handyman apparently removed a waste pipe vent from this flashing boot and as a result had a hole to fix. Not sure where the pipe went, but that’s another story.
This patch is a piece of roll roofing material mashed down around the flashing very effectively shielding the hole. When I checked inside the house in the attic, I didn’t see even the smallest hint of a water stain. Very impressive. What I also could not see, either top side or down below was any sign of an adhesive. So I have to believe what all of us already know;
Gravity works!
