Value of a "House" as an Investment - A "Home" is Worth Much More

By
Education & Training with Realtor and Productivity Coordinator - Keller Williams

It is a good time to think about the difference between a house and a home.  Think about this - The news is bombarding us with bad news about the "housing" sector and the "housing" market, not the "home-ing" sector or "home-ing" market.  Because of wild speculation in the housing market in the past several years, the value of owning a house has become suspect. Buyers are afraid to risk their money because they don't know what return or outcome to expect.  We need to think about what we are really buying.

Markets go up and down, and house prices and values  vary, depending on many factors.  However, a REAL home consists of more than lumber, nails, cement, appliances, and bricks.  It is a place to relax and be yourself, raise your children, stay out of the rain and snow, entertain your friends, do a crossword puzzle, be safe at night, watch a movie, exercise, cook dinner...Well, you get the idea.  It's great to invest in a house, but it is even better to invest in a home.

Good point, Dixie.  Love the name of your town!  You should post an article about how it came to be.

Dixie-

Welcome to AR!  Your description of your hometown and your view on 'home' vs 'house' are wonderful - I think too many people have become wrapped up in the cash value of property and not the emotional/life value.  I wish you great luck in your efforts here on AR.

Hi Dixie, I had a similar blog seniment awhile back.  In the market the last few year everyone was looking for housing to make a buck on and not a home to build a life in.

Dixie, welcome to active rain, great point especially now that there are a lot of "homes" that a homebuyer would be able to purchase at a fair price.
