OK, so New Hampshire has this strange tradition of each town determining a date and time to celebrate halloween. They have decided throughout the years to stagger the celebration from town to town.

I'm not exactly sure for their reasoning but that is the way it is and if kids play their cards right they could capitalize on this decision by getting their parents to take them to a different town each night for several days to "trick or treat".

Imagine the candy haul! Weeks and even months worth of sweet treats. Wow!

Well there is a neighborhood in Brentwood, NH called Windy Brook Farm that has a great tradition established. Early in October the entire neighborhood participates in a tradition called "booing".

A family in the neighborhood starts the process by filling a container with halloween treats and on top they place a ghost that says, "you've been booed" now it's your turn.

The family that received the container places the ghost on their front door for maximum visability (so not to get booed again) and so the process goes until everyone in the neighborhood has been "booed" before the witching hour. The kids and parents all participate sneaking around after dark so as not to get caught "booing" anyone.

On Halloween the kids all go out in costume for traditional "trick or treat" in the neighborhood. One of the neighbors has a tractor which he hooks to a wagon and gives the kids hay rides. It is great fun for all involved.

I love friendly neighborhoods with traditions that bring people together. Perhaps you'll try to get a tradition started with your neighbors.

Hi Mike & Judy - When I was little we used to go out with our costumes on just knowing that no one would recognize us. Our aunt used to go with us and she would stand just a little ways behind us and say, "I'll bet you don't know who they are"! This used to drive us crazy because I'm from a little town and everybody knew everybody. What a party pooper!

Monika - Our kids do the same with our grandchildren. Since we had trick or treat last night tonight they will go to Melrose, MA to visit their other grandparents & great grandfather and go to their neighborhood homes.

Linda - When we were kids my Dad loved this holiday and he would stock up on nickle candy bars(the size you pay 99 cents for now. We lived in the city so there were a lot of homes close by. Well we would go out fill a bag, come home dump it out and go again o another street. We had so much fun and so much candy it lasted til spring!!!
