The community of Kirkland rejoices in the re-opening of Juanita Beach Park Kirkland, WA. Juanita Beach Park is one of the area’s favorite local parks. The park is conveniently located on beautiful Juanita Drive. The park is nestled between the Juanita Village shopping plaza and is also a short distance from Kirkland’s historic, West of Market neighborhood.

Juanita Beach Park Kirkland, WA has once again become a popular leisure and recreation spot for the local community. The park has been a gathering place for citizens since the 1920s. Settler’s of the new area enjoyed the sandy beach that was left as a result of the lowering of Lake Washington. The beach and park area was originally used as a local resort. The Juanita Beach Resort and Park was started by the Forbes family and featured a bathhouse with swimsuit/boat rentals, walkways, a lunch counter, small grocery store, open-air kitchen, swimming docks, and several cabins. In later years, the resort and the land was acquired by King County and was eventually transferred to the city of Kirkland in 2002.

The southern portion of the park was closed in the Spring of 2010 to repair and renovate the beach area along Juanita Drive. After complications with contractors, Juanita Beach Park Kirkland, WA reopened to the public in August 2011. The 30 acre park features many environmental enhancements, such as the renovation o Juanita Creek,  new wetlands and marsh areas, large grassy lawn areas with improved drainage and irrigation, ad native landscaping. The parking lot has been enlarged and is surrounded by pleasant landscaping and picturesque views of the shoreline. There has been a large attempt to help the land return to a more natural state. In order to accomplish this task, the park has created “swales” in the ground to help keep pollutants from waterfowl and other sources from reaching the lake. The beach area has also been renovated to a more natural setting.

Other new features of Juanita Beach Park Kirkland, WA includes a beautiful winding walking promenade above the beach. This promenade is sure to be loved by walkers, joggers, children, skaters, and pets. Lining the promenade are benches, which provide excellent views of the waterfront. The park features a playground for children, that includes a large play structure and a set of toddler and regular children’s swings. Near the playground is another large grassy area that features several park benches, perfect for picnics. In the middle of the park is a large building used for storage and restrooms and public showers.

Juanita Beach Park Kirkland, WA is the perfect place for both families and individuals. For a fun family day, let your children enjoy the playground, the shallow end swimming, and picnic areas.
