The Hood River Fruit Loop - A Day of Distractions

By

The Hood River Fruit Loop - A day of distractionsThe Hood River Fruit Loop is a 35 mile stretch of highway located in the national scenic area known as the Columbia River Gorge. It’s about an hour from Camas, Washington and minutes from Hood River, Oregon.

Forests, farms and fruit make this a famous spot in the Pacific Northwest. The region produces seasonal harvests ranging from nuts and berries to corn and pumpkins.

The Hood River Fruit Loop is famous for it’s apples and pears too. In fact, the area leads the nation in its pear production.

This is one of the few places that offers you the complete experience of growing, producing, and then enjoying fruits and wines. It’s literally a harvest heaven for foodies and fruit lovers.

The Hood River Fruit Loop - A day of distractionsOne of our favorite times to visit The Fruit Loop is during the month of October. That’s when you’ll find bins filled with colorful gourds, apples and pears.

Be forewarned, you’ll find lots of distractions too. Local farmer’s host a variety of family activities and road side fruit stands offer a variety of temptations.

Recently, The Hood River Fruit Loop The Hood River Fruit Loop - A day of distractionsproved to be a mighty distracting trip for these Camas area residents and their dog. Ride along with “Mac and Me,” and see what happens as we spend an October morning searching for pears

ViewHomes™ grew out of our passion for nature, beautiful surroundings, and peaceful environments. Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. We now enjoy our lifestyle in a rural environment, but with close proximity to metropolitan areas where we appreciate all the amenities of fine restaurants, shopping, and an easy drive to an international airport.
Living in ViewHomes™ is like having “elbowroom for the soul”.

Another terrific video, my friend!  I love your voice, a very nice vignette of your area . . . but I think the fall leaves fell on your pizza . . . just sayin' :)  What a wonderful conversation . . . I loved it . . .

Debb, to be so close to an orchard with apples and peaches would be a great afternoon drive through beautiful scenery!

Mimi - thanks so much - I'm glad you like it. (loved it)The pizza was delicious but, it did look like somebody dropped leaves on it....it was called the Shroom Hunter - lots of mushrooms, white sauce and arugula droppings. :)

Marge - I have to bathe Mac frequently - we have a hot/cold water spigot on our back porch - he normally has a quick shower before he gets to come into the house. ( or long, depending on the adventure) You would love The Fruit Loop - it's really wonderful.

Thanks Anita - that is very nice of you to say - You would love this trip - it's so scenic and they always have lots of samples of the season's harvest.

Joan - it is an area rich in beauty and bounty. I feel lucky to live so close to it - thanks for the visit. It's always good to see you.

Carla - you do need to visit The Fruit Loop and experience all the fall harvest. The Columbia River Gorge is so magnificant - and I'll bet in a few weeks we'll have some great colors.

Debb - I loved your video of Fruit Loop ride to the Columbia Gorge, Hood River! You were born for video  - that tour was beautiful and makes me want to hop on a plane and take this spectacular tour with you! I'll bring Lucy and you bring McKinley, we'll swing by and pick up Gayle with her pups and have a grand ole time. I love the fall harvest and could practically taste the pears and apples - yum!

Kristine - that would be heavenly. I would be all over that road trip - but we'd have to stretch into a weekend. I know the three of us would find a lot more distractions than we did on Sunday.

The pears are amazing - and the apples taste better than they looked. Lol. Our favorites are the Honey Crisp - so sweet. Hope you're having a great day Jersey woman. (By the way - the best hiking in the Gorge - so bring your boots)

Cathy - I didn't enter the contest - life got in the way and I wanted to enter something specifically for the contest - or not at all.  There were plenty of good entries though, so I don't think they missed me. :) Thanks though for your kind words.

Debb,

That's a really good blog post.  You set the bar higher, and I'm still was having trouble with the low one.  Yikes.  It would take me a very long time to put together a blog post as professional as that one.

Newcomers to your area, and others, will like this post.  I did. Fruit Loop, huh?  I love it.  Is there 'Fruit Loop' Realty?  It looks like a terrific outing, not too dissimilar from a Napa Valley Wine Tour.

I need to consult an Altas of WA.  Or Google Earth.

Debb, I get intoxicated by your voice, you know that?  And Mac, he was BORN to be a star. But he has to try to RELAX in front of the camera....ha!!!

You are a natural at this, I gotta say. I agree with Gary, the length is perfect. Loved all of those distractions. And, Kristine has the right idea about gathering the clan for a Columbia Gorge and Fishhawk Lake rendezvous. There are a few more of the group we need to include, n'est p'as?

Sharon - you are such a dear. Thank you so much for your friendship in Active Rain. Hope you're doing well and having a great Wednesday. Mac's my baby!

Lloyd - thank you so much. I kind of felt like I should have done my hair, put on a bit more makeup - but then I thought "This is who I am most of the time - especially running around and exploring cool places." I think it's all about being real and relatable. Hopefully that comes through - I'm trying to show people the benefits of where I live, who I am, and hopefully, they'll be comfortable working with me.

Gayle - If you like my voice that much, call anytime, you know I love to chat and I'll give you good phone. :) Yes, my Mac boy is a laid back dude - most of the time. Especially after if he gets his regular runs in during the week. I'm glad we're back on the trails again - finally. Hope that ankle of yours heals up fast.

And yes, we need to add some ladies to that rendezvous.
