The vegan lifestyle is picking up steam; celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Lea Michelle, Carrie Underwood, Emily Deschanel, Tobey Maguire, and Bill Clinton have made this compassionate and healthy lifestyle choice.

The National Restaurant Association named vegan entrees a “hot trend” for 2011. Many people are looking for ways to eat healthier while helping to reduce animal suffering and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Ordering a vegan pizza is a great way to do all three!

Cheese-making is incredibly wasteful and energy intensive, taking 10 to 12 pounds of milk to make 1 pound of cheese. Cheese is packed with harmful saturated fat and cows suffer terribly in the dairy industry. Like all mammals, female cows only lactate after giving birth. To maximize milk production, dairy cows are kept pregnant their entire short life. Each year, she will be artificially inseminated, yet each calf will be ripped from her side just after birth and most go to the veal industry.

In this highly intensive farming the stress on her body will diminish her milk output after about 3 years. She is then what the industry terms "dried up” and, even though her natural life span is 20 years, it is more lucrative to send her to slaughter and replace her. Her body will be sold as ground beef. There is a way to avoid this suffering - by ordering the vegan pizza at Long Valley Pizza, Deli and Bagel! Enjoy, and Happy World Go Vegan Week.
