Take Your Shoes Off .. Not Always an Easy Request!

Reblogger Karen Bernetti
Home Stager

Here's a great solution to an all too common problem offered by Margaret Rome.   People sure are funny about this issue.  I know some people are absolutle fanatics about keeping their floors clean and I can certainly understand why they'd want visitors to take off their shoes. Some people just won't do it.  I certainly wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to take shoes off to walk on a DIRTY floor or a wet basement!  A little common sense and courtesy goes a long way.....

Take Your Shoes Off .. Not Always an Easy Request!

Today Alan May wrote about removing shoes at a listing.  Thought I would share how I, a listing agent, have solved this dilemma.

Take Your Shoes Off...Uh Uh...Not Going to Happen! When  I called to make an appointment to show a client a property, the service said, "Remove your shoes, make sure  all the lights are off and the doors are locked."  No problem...of course I will follow instructions.

When we got to the home, it was filthy with cats using the entire house as a litter box.

As we enter, another sign stating "please remove shoes" greeted us. ...uh uh not going to happen!

When HomeRome Realty  lists a property and  the carpet or hardwood floors need protecting, there is no shoe removal request for agents or buyers..not even in inclement weather.

There is a much better solution using an automatic shoe cover dispenser like the one in the photo.

It looks nice in the property and it saves everyone, including the kids, the inconvenience.  It is easy and fun to use. Just step gently in the box and voila... a plastic covering is elastically wrapped around the bottom of your shoe. Some people have trouble removing shoes, especially those with mobility issues and tied laces.

Have this handy dispenser at the doorway, easy to step in, no bending or removing shoes. It also works in your own home when you are having work done. How many plumbers, electricians, roofers etc...will take that time to remove the work boots?

Karen,  This is a great tip.  It really shows Buyers and Sellers that you care and that you are very professional. I'm glad that you re-blogged it because I missed it before.  I used to place a plastic box containing the slip on shoe covers that surgeons and nurses use.  This looks even better

HI Karen--I like the proposed solution for covering shoes.  It's odd, but here on Maui everyone takes their shoes off at the door.  Wearing shoes inside is just not customary here.  But then again, we are not dealing with snow, sleet, and ice.

Hi Karen - This is a handy little dispenser! And it looks nice, too. I always hate removing my shows when house hunting. There's never anywhere to sit, so I wind up hopping around trying to get them off - and then on again. And what I really hate is putting feet with now dirty socks back into my shoes! I much prefer your solution.

I wear dress shoes that have no shoe laces, and got those kind of shoes on purpose so I don't have to keep doing and undoing my shoes.  I always take of my shoes unless its a house that has wet, dirty or disturbed flooring.  That devise of stepping into that little box to have your feet covered is pretty cool.  Im going to look into it for my listings.
