Jacksonville Beach, FL Council Approves Final Phase of Downtown Re-Design

The City Council voted 6-1 on Monday to approve the $4.8 million for the final phase of the multi-year Downtown Vision plan.  The project brings improvements to the infrastructure in the forms of brick pavers replacing asphalt and landscaping additions.

The work focuses on First Street North from Beach Boulevard to Fourth Avenue North.  Massive improvements have been made to the central business district over the years, so much so that if you visited here 20 years ago and came back now, you would have a hard time recognizing the area.

Here is a street view of one area and what it looks like currently and an artist's rendering post-improvement:

Jacksonville Beach Downtown

The concept is to make the area even more pedestrian friendly and to be more family friendly as well.

Much needed improvement. How can you have a beach town in FL with no palm trees?!

Keith: I agree, it makes the area much more attractive.

Barbara: I know! It's almost amazing!

Larry: That was part of the debate, but from what I understand, the project has the funding, has had the funding, and we can't just shift it somewhere else.

Rob: Nice to read other areas have done similar things with positive results!

Marco: I KNOW! We don't have palm trees on our beaches like you do, believe it or not.
