On our recent road trip my husband had a chance to do some Geocaching with Thatcher aka Indiana Jones. If you haven't heard of geocaching, take a trip over to the site. It's somewhat like a scavenger hunt using a GPS and it's for kids of all ages. It's a great way to bond with your kids and nature as well. The caches run from large watertight jars or canisters to micros which can be no bigger than a thumbnail.
Kathy -- geocaching seems to be a trending topic in many areas -- Thatcher seems to be in the right mode for the adventure.
Kathy - looks like your hubby and Thatcher are having a fun adventure. I went geocaching in PA and it was a lot of fun - a scavenger hunt for adults!
HI Kathy....Hubby and Thatcher look like they're having a great time....and all high dry land....no swamps or gators!!
My son would love to do something like this. He's happiest outdoors and searching for things is a passion. Thanks for the tip.
What a great activity to build a solid bond with family members. That's really going back to basics. Congratulations on that. Most people don't take the time out to bond with family members. They are just too busy.
What a cool way to spend some time on an adventure. I bet it's fun for kids of every age Kathy.
Kathy, Geocaching sounds fun, I just have never taken the time to do it! I have friends that love it!
Looks like the trip was a success. Bonding in the outdoors . . . those are my favorite memories. Wonderful pictures.
Kathy,
I did check out the website and it looks interesting. I would need to devote more time to learn the rules of the game. This is a great way to interact with our young ones and incentive to take them on a hike. Reminds me of my homeschool days when we did this stuff on a regular basis.
Thanks for sharing.
Gary- you should give it a try! You can do it anywhere you are and kids do love it. If you want to know more give me a jingle.
Andrew- very funny- you can use certain aspects of the GPS if you have a Scout at home and want to teach them a little something about the compass.
Janice- I didn't know about it until about 5 years ago.. we have about 5 geocaches around this area and had fun doing some geocaching in Omaha and Kansas.
Brian- we made sure to find a cache that was large enough to have some "goodies" in it to keep his attention.
Hi John- it's lots of fun and a great way to spend time out doors.
Craig- you should try it! I love seeing the creativity that some of the Geocachers have (seriously.... think fire hydrant!)
Debb- we've discovered more parks in our area because of this!
Sally- I hope so!!! My husband loves that hat and when Thatcher wanted to wear it, it just made his day.
Michael- I was surprised how far it reached. One of our travel bugs ended up in Hawaii!
Kristine- we're waiting for the weather to get a little cooler to pick it up again. Some of them can be exasperating!
BarbaraT- we have been gator free for a while now..... hm-m-m-m-
Bryan- oh please head to the site... and if you have any questions just hollar. A lot of boy scouts do this too.
Jennifer- we got to spend alone time with each grandchild which was very special!
Malcolm- there are a lot of retired people out there doing this too!
Tony and Darcy- next time you want to do something outdoors.. give it a try.
Mimi- not quite Colorado but it was fun. We have 2 travel bugs to set out now that we're back.
Anja- Hope you get into it. All you need is a handheld GPS and some imagination. Once you get hooked you'll want to see how many you can get!
I'm not very adventurous, but this sounds like it's my speed, LOL! Something to do with the boys when they get a little older.
Fabulous bonding idea and the two of them look adorable together-putting on a pair of hiking boots and a hat looks like something I can handle!
Hi Kathy,
Thacker is adorable. We have friends who geocache and they love it. We tried it once with them and it was fun!
Lisa
Interesting. I have never heard of that before. Cool! Your son appears to be quite the inquisitive type...
Kathy ......He may not be....but he looks close!
Have a Great Night!
Go VOLS!
Kathy, Geocaching is all new to me, but I am glad to see your Husband and Little Indiana Jones having a great time in the woods.
Hi Kathy,
I have some clients who do Geocaching! When they were telling me about it, it sounded quite fun!!!
Sharon- seriously.. you could do it... I just don't into any deep woods or brush.
David- I'd bet there are some great geocaches in your area. They aren't all in the woods! There's one right in the middle of downtown Boca!
Joanna- the minute Thatcher put that hat on I just melted.
Lisa- Have you found any travel bugs? Those are fun.
Michael- I'd bet TN would be a great place to geocache. Thatcher, my grandson, is just like his grandfather... inquisitive.
Rob- I've been on the internet trying to find a little hat for him.
Jerry- you should try it.. there are a lot of ex-military guys doing it.
DeeDee- Ok.. I'm giving this one away... I saw one that was outfitted to look like a bold under a fire hydrant. Such imagination.
Cute kid! I've been interested lately in getting involved in geocaching, need to just go for it!
