101 Comments on What is this SEO Business?
Hi Tammy, there is a lot of great information here that will keep me digesting it for at least a week. Bookmarked! You are so smart!!
Another common waste of an SEO opportunity is using "Welcome to my website" as a heading instead of emphasizing the primary keyword.
Hi I was just reading your post an realized youre from Ozark?! I'm just down the road from you, would be interested in SEO work or learning more about what you do.
I've just seen it today actually. Glad I never made this mistake.
Bob - Check out this blog I did on syndicating your blogs. Syndicating is OK When you Acknowledge The Source - Posting One Blog Multiple Places It really doesn't do a whole lot for SEO but it will give you more expsosure on whatever platform you use. BUT if you do syndicate make sure you give a link back to where the post originated. Then Google will see you as the same author and not penlize you for duplicate content. Syndicating would only be beneficial for the audience you're writing for.
Secondly:
Keywords and phrases are the main focus of what you blog should be about. They should be used in the title, description and in the content 1-3 times depending on the size of the post. It anchors the content more to be about these 3-4 keywords (max). GOogle will see this as what the content is about.
TAGS are more of a category term. Use tags to categorize your blog. Whatever tags you choose to use the most should be what your whole site is about. Make sure they are always the same - meaning "Real Estate" and "real estate" are seen as two different tags. Capitalization matters so use the same format for all the same tags. Like the tags for my website are mainly SEO so Google is seeing my entire site as an SEO site while each post may have different keywords depending on the topic of the post.
Hope that makes sense. and thanks for stopping by!
Aimee - Thanks Aimee! I appreciate you stopping by! :) Make it a great week.
Gene - Thanks Gene. Hope these are easy to follow and helpful :) Have a super day!
Derricks - Absolutely. There are many factors and details to building a great optimized site. Take one step at a time and add to it and eventually it all will come together. Thanks for commenting.
Dylan - Yes, incorporating them naturally is the key. I find that if you first write for people then go back afterward and optimize it's much easier. Then you have gotten your point across and done the techy side for the search engines too.
Debora - Great! SEO is almost a necessity for being found online. The more you read and learn little tips here and there and then put them into practice the more your blogs will be found by the right people. Thanks for stopping by and feel free to ask anything. :) Have a super week!
Sandy - Thanks Sandy! :) It can be a full time job to keep up with SEO but by taking in little bits at a time it can really help. Thanks for commenting and have a super week!
Chris - Absolutely!! That happens all too often. Or just the term "My Website"... you don't want to be branded for that at all! Ha.. thanks for stopping by
Carrie - Well Hey Branson Girl! :) That's awesome! I would love to talk to you more about your site. Let me check out your site and get back with you. I will send you an email. :) Thanks again
Lyn - Which mistake is that? There are so many to make! LOL/.. Thanks for coming by and have a super weekend.
Tammy:
You have provided an easy to understand definition of SEO and a great reason to blog.
We just had an earthquake, centered in Berkeley. Just a tiny 3.9 mag, but amusing that it occurred on California Shakeout day.
Great post! I have bookmarked your blog and also the blogs from the links you provided. So much to learn and it is somewhat overwhelming! You need more than just creating a website to be found.
Tammy, I always love the detailed information you provide. I'm due to go back and re-read some of your blogs.
Hi Tammy. Excellent post. Thanks for the links to the other posts!
Hi Tammy, well written post--loaded with information. I certainly agreee with ouy regarding it taking a while. I am fortunate to be up there now, but I've had my website up for about 9 years. I find that people (read: agents) give up too easily. Thanks for the informative links.
Reguadring:
"Ben - A follow up post? Well it all depends on the keyword or phrase and it's competition. In the blog Simple Facts for Optimizing a Blog Post I talk about finding those keywords. Then using them 1-3% of the time in the content. Once done, promote that blog on FB, Twitter, and link to it several other places. With all these factors working together you should be able to get ranked fairly easily."
hehe, comon Tammy if it was that easy to get on page one of Google- everyone in active Rain would be a millionaire.
Why sell Real Estate and show people homes?
Just sell an Internet product like Forex or a weight loss product- working an hour an a day and stay at home or travel.
Have a good one
I just found you and have subscribed to your blog! Thank you for the wise advice, we can all use it!
HA Ben... Well DUH - Yes of course.. just do these things and magically you'll be there! ;-) I think we all know that it's doing these things, consistently and constantly for a good amount of time - sometimes over a year before you get there. Of course if you are going for LA REAL ESTATE you may have a long way to go... If you're going for GORST WA REAL ESTATE, (pop 30) you may get there next week. ;-) Have a super day, Ben!
Thanks for all the great comments and adding to the discussion.
As we know, there is no sure fire way to get to the top and stay there. Only Google knows what sites make it and why. Our job is to follow the rules the best we can, offer people great information, valuable tips and articles and hope we get to the top organically. :)
Dear Tammy - THANKS!! So much wonderful information. I will be studying for days! I came here via Doug's re-blog. Thanks so much & I am sure I have to go back & correct some mistakes. I just re-blogged it as well.
Nice post, I'm actually saving it so I can go over the links later.
Tammy, great information! Glad Jerry included a link in his post. This post packed full of good information.
Here's to a great 2012!
