Thinking of getting an A.T.V. for you or your child. Safety First.

We see them on t.v. and here them roaring in the woods and along the high tension wires and the first thing out of the kids mouths are COOL.

Well riding is extremely fun, relaxing and exhilarating depending on what type of mood your in. But when it comes to safety take a moment and check out the free on line coarse or even better sign up for a hands on training class.

The life you save may be your own

Please remember some of the following safety tips for you and your kids.

       1) Always wear a DOT-compliant helmet.

       2) Long sleeves, long pants, over-the-ankle boots, and gloves and of course protective eye wear.

       3) Never ride on paved roads except to cross when done safely and permitted by law .

       4) Never ride under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

       5) Never carry a passenger on a single-rider ATV.

       6) If it is designed for 2 people then that's the limit

       7) Ride an ATV that's right for your age.

       8) Supervise riders younger than 16.

       9) Ride only on designated trails and at a safe speed.

     10) Always have your child tell you where they will be riding.

     11) Charge the cell phone and have a small first aid kit attached to the vehicle.

These tips and others can be found at

                                                ATVsafety.org or call 800.887.2887

We have never done business with the above organization but if you or your child need lessons at least you have a starting point.

Don- excellent tips.  I've heard of too many accidents regarding ATV's.... people need to remember they're not toys!

Don this is such important information. I have heard of way too many kids (and adults) getting hurt on ATV's - and it could have been avoided had they followed better saftey rules.

Yes DO FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES. When my daughter first drove a 4-wheeler and she came flying over a hill at 35 MPH and CATCHING AIR. That was it for me. I got myself up and use my loudest voice (and believe me I can get loud and have never needed a mike no matter how big the building).

I had her off that thang and gave her a scathing 30 minute lecture and she had to follow the rules to get back on.

Kathy, so are so right. Even the most experienced rides at time need to remember that.

Anna , Safety first.............if you know someone who is getting one for a birthday or holiday you can give the gift of safety yourself.

Sussie, good for you............and her. If you didn't she may have just laughed it off until the next accident would could easily been more serious.

Rene, You taught him well. Safety is not just for the rider but also thoose around him or her.
