What A Dirty Mud Run Can Teach You About Real Estate

Lake Elsinore Mud Run1. Get The Right Gear- I like to consider myself a pretty swift learner. On my very first mud race, I researched all the items that might come in handy for my race. By the time I showed up, I actually had people question me about some of the items that I chose to wear. By the time we hit the third or fourth mud pit those same people were commenting on how they wish they had some of the gear that I had. The lesson here is that without the right gear, you can get de-railed quickly. You find others that look like they are running way ahead of you but the truth is that they are not necessarily better at the task, they just made sure to bring the right gear. So how about your real estate career? Are you showing up with the right gear? Where’s your database of past clients? Is it in a clear format that is easily workable or is it strewn about on post it notes?

2. Know Your Terrain- Thoroughly researching the type of course that I would heave to endure helped tremendously. Therefore, I was not surprised when I encountered the six foot wall or the twelve foot wall of ropes. The question is do you know your real estate terrain? This would mean that you know what areas you want to work. Have you delineated your area based on a city, a subdivison, a certain demographic? Once you have delineated your area, have you figured out the best way to reach this population of people? What are their needs?

3. Ignore The Others That Will Cheat- As in any race, there were plenty
of people who took short cuts or outright cheated. During my first race, some of my friends commented on how they witnessed others cheating at some of the obstacles. Did this bother me? Maybe a little at first but once I thought about it, I realized that it did not matter how anyone else ran their race. My race was about my meeting certain goals for myself. The same holds true for my real estate business. Now don’t get me wrong, blatant disrespect for the business and a total disregard for the ethics of the business definitely get my attention and cause me to take notice. But I am referring to the little things that go on regularly, the things that are more a matter of poor taste. The things that you know will cause the eventual demise of those engaged in such practices businesses.

4. Finishing The Race Depends on Both Tactics and Perseverance- Both real estate and mud runs take a good set of tactics and perseverance if you want to finish strong. If you are lacking either, you may have trouble making it to the finish line. Keisha Mud Run

5. This Can Be A Dirty Business But There Are Still Some Great People To Be Found- Mud runs and real estate definitely have more in common. They both can be dirty business. But is is important to realize that there are some great people around. Focus less on the dirt that others are slinging and surround yourself with good people who enhance your real estate business.

First off, congratulations on finishing Tough Mudder!!  Second, I tend to agree on attaining my own business ethics, because in the long run, the race is only with myself.  Make it a great day!
