So, you want a Feature? A non-Feature might be better!
Mike Cooper @ Cornerstone Business Group, Inc., 888-722-6029 has written a well thought out post about how we blog and what we are hoping to achieve. Featured or Non-Featured shouldn't matter when you begin that first word - you just need to put your thoughts down and share....just make it the best CONTENT you have in your mind at that moment and the rest will be history!!
I would imagine I'm like most people who blog. I hope that my blog is well received, helpful, entertaining and challenging at times. It's always nice to get a blog featured, but that can be elusive and unpredictable. What I've learned in seven and a half months of blogging is that it's not always the features that get the most attention.
Sometimes, an unfeatured blog garners the most attention. So, here are the things you can't control: the feature picking gods (an unpredictable bunch), the content attraction to the masses on a given day, time of day or day of the week, the response you will get from your content or the views and clicks you will receive.
Here's what you can control: Content. That's it! Even with content you cannot control visibility. So, I say, share what's on your mind, heart or plate and see what happens. Let me show how unpredictable content can be.
Of course we all love our content and think it's wonderful and should be featured. Right? Come on, you know I'm right. But, the masses on any given day may not have the time or energy to consume your wonderful content, but on another day, a blog you threw together suddenly becomes the talk of the web.
This blog not only got a lot of attention on AR, but it also got a lot of attention on other sites and a lot of clicks from outside AR. People outside of AR read it through the AR portal. If you're lot using that capacity, you should. I received a lot of emails on this one. Why? It was something every Realtor could do immediately and prosper. People like information that will help them prosper.
The one below was not featured, but it was pretty popular. The clicks were much lower but it had more views and comments than many of my featured blogs. Why was it popular? I can only assume it was because it struck a nerve.
This one was featured, but before it was featured it had a high views and comment numbers. Why? Again, it struck a nerve. Other Realtors could relate to the content.
This was a non-featured blog, but it had pretty good visibility. It not only had high views and comments, but it also had high clicks. Why? The information was personally important for Realtors, but also for homeowners.
One last example. This one was featured and had high views, comment and pretty high clicks. Why? Realtors could relate to it. It struck a nerve, and garnered a lot of differing comments. I actually shut the comments down eventually because I like to respond to each one and I couldn't keep up.
Some of these blogs were serious, some where humorous and some where just data driven. The reality is that they all had something you could grab a hold of and use right away and it would help you do your job better, be safer or commiserate with. Content is your only control item. I hope you write about whatever comes to mind, and in the process, we will benefit from it and cheer you on! Don't spend all of your time trying for the feature. Shoot for what you can control!
