Who sees the short URL, and where?
I've been using the short URL because it's easier to use the short URL to send someone to one of my blog posts. I can even memorize the short URL!
I'm curious as to what other purpose it has, though.
When I look at my statistics I see that people are clicking on the short URL:

How are people finding the short URL?
I can't find that it's showing up anywhere other than at the bottom of my post, and I am having a hard time imagining someone finding my post, reading it, and then, when they get to the bottom of the post, clicking on the short URL.
Even in a Google search, it's the long URL that is showing up as the link.
What am I missing?

Jim: I don't know what you are missing or where the short URL is either but I make sure it's clicked everytime I post. And I have lots of folks that use it...when you find the answer - write about it!
I use them to post to my Google+ page....I have to REMIND myself to do it and when I do, I get JUICE!
I use the short URL to post on Twitter and Facebook. I also have seen other folks use my short URL in their daily newsletters.
Gwynn, I try to remember to click on it every time but sometimes I forget. It would help if they would put it in a better location.
Wallace, but that would be the same thing even if you used the long URL. I can see the results when I give the URL to someone, but I don’t know of anyone who is using my URLs other than me. So how are they finding the short URL?
Cindy, I don’t have a Twitter account, and I don’t post stuff on Facebook, and I don’t know of any other folks who are using my short URL, so I’m still missing something.
Jim .....I've wondered the same thing ever since it came out ......Let me know when you figure it out......
Have a Great Night!
Go VOLS!
Jim - I never used them, have no idea what to do with it, so it was interesting for me. In any case, I am missing way more than you (LOL)
Jim,
Your click on the short url is really pretty low. If you are emailing it to folks that would probably account for the clicks. Or possibly someone on Active Rain is clicking. I have little that makes sense, but very few folks are actually clicking through on the short url.
I wrote about my experiences with the shortened URL.
Cindy uses it the way I do and I tend to only use the shortened url for the posts which I use on social media sites.
So if you are not posting to other sites, I do not know why you have hits. Are several of those shortened URL's ones you have sent to folks or since you memorize them are you giving them to people. But one or two hits is not many.
Cal
I'm curious..how would you compare the results of using the AR URL shortener with using, say, goo.gl ??
Jim - Remember that Google bots, Bing bots, Yahoo bots (if they still exist), and many other bots may follow the links as well.
Interesting. I know there are so many different shorteners out there but how and when they are used is a mystery to me.
Jim --- good question -- I know that when I look at my statistics, an indication that "someone" has clicked on the short URL also immediately after I post(and it's not me). When I look at others posts I notice many don't seem to use it.
Cal – I’m not using the short URLs at all that have any clicks. I just started generating the short URLs and have not had the opportunity to use them. So who is clicking them?
Eric – You’re asking the wrong person.
Marc – Would those bots really go all the way to the bottom of the post to find the short URL, and if they were indexing the short URL, why does only the long URL show up in searches?
Michael – Ditto.
