Home Depot Innovation – It’s in the Card

I have to hit the road very early tomorrow morning so I went to Home Depot to pick up some supplies tonight in Placerville. There was a rush and the lines backed up quickly. A clerk began going through the line of waiting customers and scanning the order and handing them a card.

So instead of waiting in line until it was my turn to check out, my order was already scanned. I just had to hand this card to the cashier and pay. This was a very quick process, and very innovative idea.

That is smart.  you can do a similar thing in some of the super markets here.  Of course, in the process, the gadgets try to get you to buy more by alerting you to sales n the aisle you are in.

I have seen this done in Costco but never Home Depot.  Of course, I rarely go in Home Depot during the busy times.

Maybe it's the latest "Big Box" thing Will.

Haven't seen it in Costco yet, maybe this season Jane.

Funny thing, HD wasn't busy that night. Seems all 8 people in the store checked out at the same time Valerie.  :)

Whoa!  That's pretty awesome!  I haven't see that at the local HD stores, but I have seen the local Chic-Fil-A using that approach in the drive through lunch line.

They have one or two people out in the parking lot walking down the drive through line and taking orders with a wireless terminal.  That way the order is ready as soon as they get up there, and they pay and go!

I've never hear of In 'n Out Burger.  Have you ever heard of Chic-Fil-A?  Just wondering how local only it is.

I have heard of Chic-Fil-A, but have never been there. In 'n Out, started in Southern California and has grown, it may not be national - Yet!
