Here is a wonderful old story that really hits home about dreams, chasing dreams, and recognizing what you have. Enjoy!
An American businessman was in Mexico to meet with suppliers. Down near the waterfront, he encountered a local fisherman who was selling his catch for the day.
“How long did it take to catch these fish?” asked the businessman while surveying the small bounty.
“Not too long, a few hours,” replied the fisherman.
“Well then why didn’t you stay out longer and catch more?” asked the astonished businessman.
“I caught what I needed to take care of my family,” replied the fisherman proudly.
Intrigued, the businessman queried, “What will you do the rest of today?”
“Oh, I will go home and play with my children, take a siesta with my wife. After dinner tonight, I will see my friends, we will play cards and sing some songs.” The fisherman smiled, “I have a good life.”
The businessman countered, “You know, if you worked a little harder and stayed out longer, you could catch more fish and make more money. You could then buy a larger boat and catch even more fish. Someday you could have a whole fleet of boats. You could move to the capital or even New York or Miami and buy a processing and distribution facility for your fish and cut out the cost of the middle man. You could make millions!”
“Hmmm,” the fisherman thought, “how long would that take to build this empire of which you speak?”
“Maybe 20 or 30 years,” replied the businessman.
“And then what would I do after I made my millions?” asked the fisherman.
The businessman smiled, “Oh, well you can retire to a tiny fishing village, play with your grandchildren, take naps with your wife, and enjoy your friends.”
