The Beach Waterpark Candy Cane Directional SignThe Beach Waterpark Melts The Beach on Ice for 2011

Mason's The Beach Waterpark announced this week that it's annual The Beach on Ice will NOT be held this year.  Traditionally featuring Ohio's largest outdoor ice skating rink, a toboggan slide, carriage rides, a petting corral, the Polar Express miniature train display, and the Starlight Entertainment Pavilion, The Beach on Ice was one of the area's premier winter events.

Held mid-December through just after New Year's Day, it was one of the few outdoor events that you could go freeze your tailfeathers off and still have a great time!

However, attendance has declined in 2009 and 2010, and when you consider the expense of staffing the park, making all the changes, maintaining the ice rink, etc., The Beach on Ice becomes a casualty of the economy and local residents with less discretionary spending.

The Beach Waterpark announced that anyone having already purchased tickets will be automatically refunded.

For further information, contact The Beach Waterpark at 513.398.7946.

That's looks to be a huge loss for everyone in the Mason, OH, Bill & Liz. What a shame but it is happening all over.

Lori, We drive by the place pretty much daily as it's right next to I-71.  Hopefully they still put up their Christmas lights on the water slides.

Toni, It's a privately held place.  The cancellation makes me a little anxious.  Great Wolf Lodge opened a few years ago, so they've got the all year round indoor water park, and Kings Island announced they're doubling the size of their waterpark for 2012.  With both just the other side of the same interstate exit, I'm fearful the competition may be taking a big bite out of this park. Hopefully my concern is unfounded and they'll be back stronger than ever.

Good morning Liz and Bill,

What a shame, it sounds like it was a great annual event.  The economy is hurting so many aspects of everyone's daily life...sad.

Deborah, It's unfortunately to be expected.  I'd rather see the occasional event canceled than a business or organization make the wrong fiscal decisions.

There are lots of fun things to do that are no and low cost to do and promotion of those past times is key in any market in the country, no matter what the economy.

Andrew, And that is the good news, we have lakes, rivers, parks, etc. that will still be open, just not quite the same as this Christmas event.

It's so sad when wonderful events like this one becomes a casualty of bad economic times. Hopefully things will pick up and the Beach on Ice will live to see another day.

So sad to hear.  I'm sure the kids are truly bummed out.  With all these dudget cuts, rising prices, increasing labor force, you wonder why there are so many cuts everywhere.  So what are people doing with the money and their time?!!

Jennifer, Paying for higher gas, health care, etc. would be my guess....and a lot more Netflix/Redbox rentals.

That is a shame BLiz.  The Beach on Ice sounded like it would have been a wonderful event for folks in your area to attend.  Hopefully the economy gets better so they can put this on again soon.

Anita, We hope so too.  They've got stiff competition during the summer, but overall they're a more economical alternative to the park across the interstate :)

This economy takes all the fun out of everything.  It is sad to see all the cutbacks when just seven or eight years ago, everyone was riding high.
