Life is really funny at times and it never ceases to amaze me how one situation leads to another, to another, to another and often times you look back and think to yourself..."Who Knew?"

This is a story of an unexpected guest and a feast that started with a slice of Humble Pie.

Maria Gabriella Sagheddu

"Maria on her Confirmation Day"

My daughter, Maria, made her Confirmation last Sunday afternoon. We had decided not to have a "big shindig" with the extended family this time. Instead, we just planned a small gathering afterward with my Mom, my sister, her husband and my niece. I suggested we just get pizza since we wouldn't even get home until after 6pm but my husband cannot just "do Pizza"! He loves to cook and so we ended up with more of a mini feast of sorts.

So, now to the humble Pie and my unexpected guest...

Back up about 6 weeks..

I get a call from an agent I work with on a regular basis. She gives me the name of a client who is ready for a Staging consult. She warns me...HE IS VERY DIFFICULT...you will need to pull out all of your reserves of patience on this one!!

Great...I love a challenge!

So I show up...ready to jump right into the consultation process. First we sit down for a few minutes to overview some things before we get started...or so I thought. What actually happened was a 45 minute grilling session and trial of my character, services, values and patience beyond what any saint could bear let alone little ole me!!

Hey...wait a minute, I thought I was here for a consult??

Turns out, this particular man is very technical minded, extremely analytical and super suspicious. The conversation turned out to be the most challenging one I have ever had with a client as I was called to defend myself and my services but hardly given a word in edgewise to do so. He basically told me that I couldn't possibly care about whether or not he sells his house. I get paid regardless for my services so therefore I have no interest in the effectiveness of what my services do for him whatsoever!!

Oh.. and he started in on the Realtor too..."They have a conflict of interest the second they take you out to look at properties."... Say What?

CAN YOU IMAGINE??

Has anything like this ever happened to you?? What would you do??

Ok, I've got to make this a two part post so I can tell you the full story of what happened.

Humble Pie...continued...would you like a slice?

:)

Sheila~ Part two will reveal all! Actually, this meeting with this client happened several weeks ago, not on my daughter's confirmation day...sorry for the confusion...that would have really stunk!!!

Hi Valerie~ Always a pleasure seeing your smiling face as well! Ooo, your comment actually just reminded me of another part of the story...I better get writing!

OH MY GOODNESS...too funny, the graphic word I have to type to submit this comment is "crab apple"!!

I've had conversations like that! Fun Wow! I just tell them my job is to give them suggestions that will help their house appeal to the largest number of buyers. They should then look at their budget and decide with their Realtor which ones to use. I also encourage them to tell me right away if there is a suggestion they know is a no go for them. If they do I will come up with one that is doable.

Truth is some people just want to be negative. I accept that and move on.

After venting to a friend of course LOL.

Valerie - Oh, there you go again, you little tease, with that Part 1 & Part 2 ploy!  It's tough when you're grilled, but have no chance to respond.  Well, patience is a virtue, they say...

Janice~ That was very well stated and would be a perfect way to handle a client who wasn't so EXTREME...lol!! He was twisting and pulling everything I said like a piece of Taffy!!!

Sally~ You know...I love me a good cliff hanger! Patience was only one of the virtues I had to exercise...that's where the humble pie comes in! I promise I will post part 2 tomorrow so you don't have to wait too long.

Hey that reminds me...time to pick up where I left off on my Ghost stories...it's that time of year!!

I have to agree, this guy acted like a jackass and clearly came with some major baggage. At least the realtor warned you to keep your wits about you when you got to meet him face to face. There's something hidden just around the corner with this one. Please let us know what that is soon.

Thankfully I've never had this happen to me.

Valerie- OK.... we want the rest of the story.  I'm not sure in my "advanced age" that I wouldn't have thanked him for his time, bid him a nice day and left him to see me as I left his driveway.  Now... if it's done not in an arrogant manner... I might consider letting him have his say.

BTW- your daughter is beautiful.

Donna~ Baggage for sure but then again...how many of us are carrying baggage? It may not be visible...but it may be heavy!!!

Kathy~ There are so many things I could have said and done...we are constantly having to make choices about how to deal with people or situations that fall at our feet. The thing I find so interesting is that how we react typically determines what happens next....

...so what happens next? Tune in tomorrow!

She is beautiful!  He is an ass.  I don't think I have the patience any more for those type of sellers.  I'm looking forward to the "rest of the story" where all of us who would have walked away from this guy and not looked back learn that we were wrong to judge him.  Or not.

Hi Valerie -- knowing that you are such a nice person, I can imagine you sitting there listening politely to this jerk.  I might not have had the patience to do so ... I like to help people who appreciate me  :-)

But I'm waiting for part 2 to hear the rest of the story!!!

P.S.  Your daughter is a darling young woman ....

He's wrong. Every professional stager has a vested interest in helping the home to sell quickly. Have a home sit and see what that does to your stats.

Can't wait for part II.
