Recently on another site, there was a debate ensuing wherein a suggestion was made that 'one stop shops' in our real estate industry merely derived their business model from one made popular by the one and only...Sam Walton...founder of WalMart! I like Sam and I like WalMart...
Now, my thrifty wife (I say this as a compliment) shops at WalMart frequently...she tells me that she gets some great buys there on various food items and other essentials for the home and family...I trust her implicitely...and she can make a penny spend like a nickel! Which in this economy has real value!
Sam Walton's idea, to buy smart and in quantities large enough to pass on to the consumer great savings, has been tested and proven successful.
In this day of 'throw away everything', where not much is made to be 'repaired', single use products have become very popular. Your radio breaks, throw it out and buy a new one...when's the last time you had a toaster repaired, or a TV for that matter? They don't even 'repair' many things on cars anymore...they just replace and move on.
This is also the age of multi-use products...where one product can do the work of several...! We have discovered quickly, however, that products dedicated to do a specific task have performed much more reliably in an office environment than their multi-use substitutes!
Not that there is anything wrong with WalMart's Eye Care department, but we ourselves choose to select our own eye specialist and our own dentists, our own family doctors, our own hair cutters, etc. In other words, in our world, WalMart isn't the ONLY place we shop...We buy most of our food from supermarkets other than WalMart...mainly for quality and selection reasons!
We advocate and enjoy doing business with the local business community...it is our small way of 'giving back' a little something to the people we work with, play with, worship with, and interact with daily. We enjoy supporting our neighbors who are in business, period!
We have learned that not everything can be measured in dollars and cents. People and Quality and Value must be considered in making budget decisions.
So Sam, it's not that we don't trust you or your business model or your low prices, but when it comes to the security or well being of our family or friends, we reserve the right to make our own decisions on what to buy and where to shop.
On what real estate agent to use, which mortgage company we borrow from, and which title company we choose to handle our closing!!!
Thank you for understanding our wishes and for allowing us to choose on our own the people and services we desire! See you next week in the store!
