The ostrich says "Yawp!"I just found out about this website today called MyYawp.com. For starters, it's just a fun word to say ... Yawp!! (Go ahead, close your office door and let out a couple of hearty Yawps! Even better, tape a sign on the door that says "Don't bother me, I'm finding my Yawp!") When I thought of what kind of animal might make that sound, an ostrich came to mind -- and who doesn't like a good photo of an ostrich? ... Yawp!! Hmm, is this anything like The Lovely Wife's ROAR? In a way, yes - Yawp is about passion.

Now getting back to the business of the web, I ventured over to MyYawp.com and found that it's a great resource for finding your passion, expressing it on the web and maybe even generating some revenue along the way. First, I learned that Yawp goes back to the Walt Whitman poem Leaves of Grass:

  • "I too am not a bit tamed, I too am untranslatable
I sound my barbaric yawp over the rooftops of the world."

To the founders of MyYawp, Jeff Wourio and Craig Kasnoff, "a Yawp truly is - passionate, yes, but also practical, personal and powerful on any number of levels." Their website lays out a six-step process to finding your Yawp:

  1. Find your passion
  2. Create your presence
  3. Find your partners
  4. Find your audience
  5. Create your business
  6. Continue to develop

It's a fascinating process, with detailed worksheets to guide you along the way. There are some excellent weblog examples such as "Tigers in Crisis" and "Travel Paris Online." A resource page has ten links to help you write, promote and develop your blog and further your passion.

So if you're not really sure about blogging or don't quite have the focus that you'd like, don't stick your head in the sand -- visit MyYawp.com, and find your passion! ... YAWP!!
