Everyday I start my day with a walk through my local neighborhood. When I head out the front door, I can go North, South, East or West. My favorite is to head South, it offers, multiple choices, of walking entertainment, from finding money, to seeing the early morning street vendors, selling morning papers. The cacophony, of road traffic noise, the busy donut shop ( which I am happy to say I steer clear of) but the smells are heavenly. I live North of San Diego, California and the weather is without a doubt one of the best in the country. My early morning walks bring me pleasure and I look forward to each one, along with my iPod, and the many inspiration, mystery, or motivation messages that I listen to as I walk. For all the many joys that I experience while walking there is a sad side that is part of this morning ritual.
When I choose to head South on my morning walks, I many times get brought up short with the reality of what paths in life--- all our souls choose to take, I find homeless seeking handouts, searching through garbage for food, picking out plastic bottles, cans, or sleeping in the doorway of many of the local businesses. I can honestly say that I find seeing these special individuals very uncomfortable, I squirm inside, I find I increase my pace when I walk by them, I shutter inside, that these people, are having such a struggle, with life. I cannot put into words, the agony that I see on these homeless people faces, no I cannot paint a pretty picture. So, I often wonder what is their "story" why has life turn for them in this direction.
Yes, it is the 'WHY" that drives my curiosity, I see quite an age range from very young lads, still in their teens to those that are season well up into their 60's+ who have seen the joy and heart break of living on this planet for so many years. What could be the reason, that my path and theirs cross in the early AM. They say there are no coincidences--life is serendipitous. You might being saying what could all this mean, that is the beauty every morning that I choose to walk South and encounter, these many wonderful & very different personalities that add so much color to the tapestry of life, I say a silent prayer, to those that I see that they may have a small miracle in their day, that they find shelter, food, and a chance to rest in a safe place. This is my entry into the Fall Miracle Contest.
