One of the ways bloggers (in the old days) were considered relevant by Google was by the incoming links they accumulated. How many people linked to you showed how respected you were. So, reciprocal linking became a big thing, it raised you up in the eyes of Google's algorithm. Does reciprocal linking has the Google juice it once had? It can't hurt, though to have these contacts for reasons other than page ranking.

Chiara ... You are correct. You can also find a hornets nest of discussion about how relevant it still is. But besides SEO, you are also saying if you want a home in Knoxville TN, Andrew Mooers in Maine says contact by just toggling this hyperlink, Chiara Petro... she's the go to in a part of the country I do not serve. And vice versa.

Andrew, thanks for the blog subscription! :) Real estate link exchange has always been a controversial seo topic to whether it's black hat or not. But just like  AR offering "associates" having a section on your site with legitimate connections is not all bad. Its these pages and pages of "strangers" as you say that can cause issues... I have done contextual links pages and guest blogging pages alternatively in the past for this and also accepted widgets from lenders and storage facilities in exchange for a link. It can work but you're right, slow and steady and legitimate wins the race. Have a super weekend!

Hi Andrew,

Went to a wedding last night. They had a ring exchange. That made perfect sense to me.

But link exchange? (I'll give you mine if you give me yours.)

Tammy ...Thanks for joining the group.

Phil ... It has to leave a good taste in both parties mouth, the exchange can be win win unless totally unrelated to your field or a slimy off shore racket scheme with a link farm over shadowing the manipulation. I am talking healthy, slow, Active Rain members who have no bugs, ailments, diseases to hurt your promotion. Join the group and look for a good match. Home grown, organic, not store bought.
