Out-n-About in Northeast Tarrant County | Fort Worth, Texas | SkyBall IX
In conjunction with the Fort Worth Alliance Airshow each year is Skyball. This year marks the ninth year of Skyball. Skyball is an annual fundraiser to support military service members and their families.
Skyball is put on each year thanks in large part to its primary sponsors: The Fort Worth AirPower Foundation, presenting sponsor Bell Helicopter, and title sponsor American Airlines.
In 1999 the Fort Worth Airpower Council created the Fort Worth Airpower Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit foundation to raise money in support of our military and their families.
Sky Ball debuted nine years ago as the Foundation's premier fundraiser and American Airlines became the title sponsor of Sky Ball four years later.
Over the years, Sky Ball has allowed the FWAPF to contribute to many projects that directly support members of all branches of our military and their families. We are excited that the magnitude of Sky Ball has grown to a National level, allowing more broad-based support to military service members, veterans and their families wherever it is needed.
This year, Sky Ball IX will be presented on Saturday evening, October 22, 2011 in the American Airlines facility at Alliance Fort Worth Airport. The event will proudly commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Medal of Honor, as well as the Centennials of Naval and Marine Corps Aviation.
Entertainer Tony Orlando will serve as celebrity host. Several recipients of the Medal of Honor will be in attendance and a number of Marine aircraft will be on display. Gary Sinise, widely regarded as our Nation's next Bob Hope, will rock the house with his Lt. Dan Band.
The more than 700 volunteers from American Airlines will again make Sky Ball possible. A free Friday night concert by Clint Black for more than 5000 area military members and their families will kick-off the weekend events, which will also include the Alliance Air Show.
My wife (pictured left) and I have attended Skyballs on several occasions but have been unable to the last couple of years due to our volunteering at Cutting Edge Haunted House in support of the Susan G. Komen race for cure cause.
I am very thankful for organizations like the Fort Worth AirPower Foundation, Bell Helicopter and American Airlines who proudly support our military and their families.
